Description

NMPEYERS, VHUTQLH'HOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. D. C.
anitd' gummi tut dn.,
DAVID C. FRAZEUR AND WILLIAM D. COCKLIN, SIDONSBURG,
' PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 911,735, dated June-'22, 1,869.
IMPROVEMENT IN FARM-GATES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom lit lmay concern' Be it known that we,DAv1D C. FRAZEUR and WIL- LIAM D. GoeKLIN, ot' Sidonsburg, iu the county of York, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Farm-Gates; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the saine, reference being` had to the annexeddrawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1, ofthedrawings, is a front plan view of our invention.
Figures 2 and 3 are details.
Our invention relates to tardi-gates; and
It consists maiul y in a novel arrangement of devices fby which the front end of such gates may be raised -npward to any desirable altitude, while the rear ends remain in a fixed position.
The letters A and B, of the drawings, respectively represent the front and rear vertical slotted end-pieces of our gate, in which the rails are pivoted, as shown.
rlhe letter C is the middle vertical slotted bar, i-n which the upper rail is pivoted, as shown.
The letters D are the-rails, or slats of our gate.
The lower rail ofour gate is perforated with piu- -holes, as shown by letter s, which pin-holes correspond in size with piu-hole y that passes through the bottom of the centre slotted gate-bar.
The letter n is the latch, pivoted inthe slot of the centre bar, as shown.
When the gate is fixed in a horizontal position, as
shown bythe black lines on iig 1, a suitable pin' is passed through the pin-holesy and s, and holds the gate iirmly in that position; but when we desire to elevate the front end of the gate, we remove said pin, and raise the front end upward until it 'assumes the position indicated by the red lines on said figure.
This arran rement serves the pui ose of barrin lar e animals from a ield while small ones are admitted, and
is valuable for a variety of' purposes.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. vThe arrangement, herein shown and described, of the rails D, the upper rail only being pivoted inthe central gate-bar, and the lower rail having pin-holes s adapted to the pin-hole y and pin, as described, when constructed and operating substantially as and t'or the purposes specified.
In testimony that weelaim the above, we have here` unto subseribedonr names inthe presence of two Wit- DQSSBS.
DAVID C. FRAZEUR. WILLIAM D. COGKLIN.
