Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 30, 190e.
Application led November 10, 1908. Serial No. 461,916.
To all whom it may concer/a: i' lBe it known that l, GERTRUDE LAFRENTZ, i a citizen ofthe United States, residing a' Chicago, in the county ol Cook and State o1A Illinois, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Fish-Sealers, of which the folowing is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in fish scalers, beingT more particularly directed to an article of this character which is terial.
The mainobject of the present invention is the provision of a fish sealer constructed entirely of a single sheet of material, the various parts being so arranged as to provide a substantial serviceable structure.
The invention will he described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lish sealer constructed'in accordance with my invention, the same being 4taken from the underside. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the saine. A Fig. 3 is an end view of the same. Fig. l is a transverse section on line 4--4 of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, my improved fish sealer is material 1, initiall formed to provide a comparatively broad body portion 2 and a narrow handle portion 3, the latter being arranged in a plane oilset from the plane of the b ody portion, preferably by bending the material at the juncture of the handle and body portion to provide a connecting section 4. f
It is the purpose of the present invention to construct the sealer out of as light material as'possible and in order to permit' the use of such material strengthening means must be provided to prevent bending orl buckling of the material in use. To this end l the edge forming outline ofthe blank is bent l at right angles to the main plane ofthe blank to provide a depending flange 5, which l flange, being as described coextensive with the edge outline of the implement, serves to effectively strengthen and reinforce the material 'thereof in a manner to provide a coin parativelv rigid structure. The edge llange alined with the relatively forward edge of the body portion is of greater depth than the remainder of the edge flange, providing a llange 6, which on its lower edge is formed with a series of teeth 7 or the like for service in scraping in the use of the implement.
The body portion 2 is formed with a series of transverse rectangular slots 8 arranged by cutting the material of the body portion except on 011e longitudinal side of 'the slot. The material thus severed on three sides-is bent downwardly to provide depending flanges 9, which are so arranged that their lower edges are in alinement with the lower edge of the flange 6. One or more of the flanges 9 may be formed on its relatively lower edge with teeth 10 corresponding to the teeth 7 of the flange 6, while the remainder of the flanges may have rounded or blunted projections 11 instead of the teeth.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is
A fish sealer having a body'portion and a handle portion of less width than the body portion, the boundary edge of the handle and body portion being bent throughout its length to for1n a depending reinforcing flange, said vflarige at the forward edge of the body portion being ot greater depth than the remainder of the llange and formed on its lower edge witlra series of teeth, the body portion within the marginal flange beingr formed with a series of longitudinal slots the .material of which is projected downward with their lower edges in a plane with the lower edge of the tooth portion of the marginal flange.
In testimony whereof l aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
