Description
itnittd gitana l/hnttntA @mim lCHARLES C. SCAIFE, OF PITTSBRG, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 91,672," elated .Tune 22,1869; antedatell .Tune 10, 1869.
IMPROVED METALLIC ROQFING.
The Schedule' referred to in these Letters Patent and making partA ot the same.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known .that I, CHARLES O. SGAIFE, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, and State of Penn-Y In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification- Figure l represents a top view of a corrugated sheet of metal, with a section of another sheet of the same metal overlapping it.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, cut through at line :1: of iig. l.
Figure 3 is a transverse sect-ion of the same, cut through at line x of fig. 1.
Figure 4 is a transverse section of the same, cut through at line a: of tig. 1.
In the drawingsl A represents the sheet-metal, which is made in any of the known forms.l
B represents the felt, lining of the sheet-metal.
The felt lining B is secured to the sheet-metal by coating the metal with a good article of glue, or other mattei' suitable for making the felt adhere close and firmly to the sheet-metal.
' After the sheet-metal is coated with the matter used for securing the felt toit, the felt is spread over the sheet-metal, and is then pressed down on it, after which it is set away to dry.
The advantage of my improvement consists in being enabled, through the medium of' sheet-metal lined as hereinhefbre described, to make a metallic roof with close joints or seams, as indicated at C, and also t0 revent condensation on the under side of the roof of the building.
rlhe condensation ofthe atmosphere in buildings Aand the droppings from. the roof, the openings be tween sheets of metal, admitting dust, cold, and snowdriftings, make the ordinary metallic roof Very objectionable, a remedy for which is found in my improvement. i
Having thus described the nature, construction, and operation of my improvement,
What I claim as of my invention, is` Sheet-metal, lined with felting, or its equivalent, substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth. Y
CEAS. C. SCAIFE.
