Description

(No Model.)
J. WOCK. EAVES TROUGH' No. 415,854. Patented Nov. 26f 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I JOHN "OCK, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE CANTON STEEL ROOFING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
EAVES-TROUGH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,854, dated November 26, 1889.
Application filed June 17, 1889. Serial No. 314,665. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN \VOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eaves-Troughs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a IO part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a View of a portion of -a sheet from which the joint is formed. .Fig. 2 is a view showing the joint formed and a portion of the roll or bead broken away. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through line 2 2, Fig. 2.
The present invention has relation to eavestroughs; and it consists in the diiterent parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the draw,- lugs.
- In the accompanying drawings, A represents the sheet from which the trough proper is formed. One end of the sheet A is provided with the narrowed portion B, which is of the form shown in Fig. 1, and is for the purpose of forming the groove to. The groove to is formed by first bending the portion B back against the sheet A, and again bending a partof said portion against itself, thereby forming the groove a. The last bend of the portion B is made at a point so as to bring the raw end of said portion Ba short distance past the first bend, as shown at b, Fig. 2, and
is for the purpose of forming a guide to enter the end of a sect-ion of a trough.
For the purpose of preventing the portion B from spreading apart after the joint a is formed, the extension O is provided, which extension is embraced by the roll or bead D.
It will be seen that by my peculiar construction I am enabled to form the joint without the use of solder, and at the same time produce a perfect water-tight joint, and one that will not be liable to become disconnected.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the sheet A, provided with'the narrowed portion B, having the extension C, the groove a, formed by bending the narrowed portion B against the sheet A and a part of said narrowed portion against itself at a point to form the guide, as at b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
'JOIIN wocK.
