IMPROVEMENT IN PLOODQROLLER The Schedule referred to in these-Letters Patent and making part of the same. I.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Witmau J. OOXNELL, of West Unity, in the county of Williams, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Im provement in Flood- Rollers; and, I ;do' hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the `accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. y

M y 'invention consists in a hollow `Octagon roller, in combination with two slotted posts, or uprights, for the purpose of a flood-roller.

, In the .construction and arrangement of my floodroller, it is necessary' to employ two posts, B, with slots, B', to receive the axis of the roller.

These posts may be framed into mud-sills, A, which may also be connected by a cross-sill, A'.

lraces,l), are set on the lower side of the posts, and the nn`1dsills may be held by a stone or block, C, t0 prevent swagging. But the mud-sills are not essen- `tial, as the posts may he set firmly iu the ground.

The roller,I G, is made with eight sides 'and angles, so that th'e current of water, striking against the same, will give the roller 'a rotary motion. It may be made hollow, out of inch boards, so that the roller will easily oat on the water, and rise and fall with the stream. lhe axis ofV the roller is placed loosely in the slots B', and slides freely up and down in these slots as the roller rises and falls ith the water.

This loller forms a complete fence against all kinds of stock.

I do not limit my claim to an Octagon roller, as a six-sided roller, or any other polygon roller, may be used; but I prefer the roller above described.

I do not broadly claim the separate vdevices above described, but I believe the above arrangement of roller is an improvement over anything heretofore known.

lhe above-described Octagon, or polygon roller, in combination with the slotted posts, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
