Description

A. P. SHEPHERD. CLOTHES DRAINBR.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 0T. 11, 1907. n 91 6,041 Patented Mar. 23, 1909.
ALITIA P. SHEPHERD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CLOTHES-DBAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 23, 1909.
Application filed October 11, 1907. Serial No. 397,004.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALrrIA P. SHEPHERD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes -Drainers, of which the following is a speciication.
The object of my invention is to provide a device that may be employed in connection With a Wash-boiler or other vessel to facilitate draining excess water from the clothes into the vessel.
Referring to the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved clothes drainer in operative relation to an ordinary wash-boiler. Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale showing the clothes drainerv alone.
A grid 16 is formed by bending a wire 16a in the form of a semi-oval and then adding cross wires 16h. Other wires 16c pass trans versely of the cross wires and terminate in a hook 19 at the oval end.` Certain of the cross Wires 16'b are bent up, as indicated by the reference numeral 17, and have handles 18 attached between their ends. The structure thus formed is adapted to be dropped down below the edge of a wash-boiler or other open topped vessel and be supported therein from the edges, as shown in Fig. 1. Clothes in the bottom of the wash-boiler can be lifted to lie thereon until they drain sufciently to be removed. Then they can be removed from the grid, or the grid itself with the clothes thereon can be removed by means of the handles 18. It is to be noted that the prolonged cross bars 1Gb serve not only as means to support the grid 16 on the edges of the wash-boiler, but also as means for the attachment of the handles 18. The Wires 16c increase the strength and rigidity of the device and also serve to form the hook 19. They may be made to pass over the cross bar 16 that lies nearest the oval end of the grid, so as to hold them in proper relation thereto.
I do not limit my claim to the specific embodiment of my invention disclosed herein. For example, the grid might be made of perforated sheet metal or the prolongations 17 might be so adapted as to make it practicable to dispense With the hook 19. These modiiications and various others lie Within the sco e of the appended claim.
claim:
A clothes drainer comprising a U-shaped wire frame, a supporting hook at the bend in said frame, cross bars connecting the sides and ends of said frame, certain of said bars being prolonged and `bent upwardly at right angles to the plane of the frame and then bent outwardly, one of said bars connecting the ends of the frame, and Wooden handles attached to the extremities of said extended cross bars.
