LLOYD M. GREENO, OF JUNCTION CITY, KANSAS.
SASI-I-LOCK. A
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 16, 1909.
Application filed August 20, 1908. Serial No. 449,514.
To all whom it 'may concern.'
Be it known that l, LLOYD M. GREENO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Junction City, in the county of Geary and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art i to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to sash fasteners, and the object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, cheap and easily applied, and which will serve to lock the Window in partially open position or closed position.
Frequently it is desired to ventilate a room and at the same time lock the window so that intruders may not gain entrance. l/Vith the ordinary ,type of meeting rail lock this is impossible, and it is therefore one object of my invention to obviate this diiculty.
Broadly speaking the invention consists in a suitable latch plate which is carried by the up er sash and a locking device hinged to the ower sash and adapted to engage the same so as to lock the sash in partially open or closed position.
W'ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
ln the drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a pair of sashes with my device applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the upper sash and 2 the lower sash, with 3 and 4 indicating the meeting rails of said sashes respectively. `Attached to the upper sash is a locking plate 5, which is stamped up out of a single sheet of material, and is provided with spacing flanges 6, so as to separate its intermediate portion from the vertical side piece of the upper sash 1.
The device is attached to the side piece by screws 7, which pass therethrough and is provided with a plurality of oval-shaped apertures 8. This plate constitutes a keeper which is adapted to be engaged by the latching device, which I shallnow describe.
A hinge member 9, having in one of its leaves a plurality of holes to receive the attaching screws 10, which enter into the meet` ing rail 4 and secure the device so that its opposite leaf 11 may swing into parallelism with the latching plate 5. Journaled for rotation in the upper end of the leaf 11 is a locking member 12, having on its outer end an operating button 13, and on its inner end a reduced shank 14, which is threaded into the body 12, and has at its outer end an oval or elliptical button 15. Surrounding the reduced shank 14 on the inner side of the plate 11 so as to abut the body 12 is a split spring washer which normally holds the oval head 15 against the outer side of the leaf 11. l
It will be seen that by placing the oval head 15 Within one of the oval openings 8 and turning the operating button 13 the sashes may be locked together in any adjusted position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without y requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of sashes, a keeper member having a plurality of oval apertures therein, said keeper member carried bythe upper sash, a hinge carried on top of the meeting rail of the lower sash, means for se.- curing one leaf of said hinge to the meetin rail, and a spring pressed rotating elliptica button carried by the opposite leaf for engaging the apertures in the keeper member.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand :in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LLOYD M. GREENO. Witnesses:
