To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WALTER P. Evan's, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meadow Grove, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new in the art to which it appertains to make" and use the same.
My invention relates to wall papering or bill posting machines.
The ob ect of the invention is to provide a machine upon which the wall paper or bills to be posted are held, pasted. and distributed as the machine is moved over the surface whichit is desired to cover.
In wall papering it is necessary for the operator to unroll the paper from the roll, paste it, fold it and smooth it upon the wall. It is the object of my invention to obviate these unnecessary steps and broadly speaking consists in supplying paper from the roll to a posting device, and conveyingit to a smoothing roller which applies it to the surface to be covered. In bill posting these features are important because it requires as the usual rule, one man to paste and the other to post the bills'where rapidity is the object.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the paper from the roll may be severed at the proper time so as to disconnect the part pasted upon the wall or board from the remainder of the roll. This severing is not complete but only partial so that a further-supply may be started under the smoothing roller before the part just pasted isentirely disconnected.
WVlth these and other objects in view, the invention consists offcertain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in theappended claims.

The supporting bars 3 are apertured to receive the transverse paper roller shaft 6, which is arranged'directly below the pasting tank 7, which is carried by the side members. The 'end pieces 8, of the side members are extended up above the tank 7, where they are provided with journal hearings to receive the pasting roller 9, over which the paper 1.0, from the roller shaft 6 passes.

These feeding rollers are driven by suitable pulleys 16 and 17, carried u on the outer ends" of their shafts and belter to a pulley 18, carried upon the outer end of the shaft 19, of the smoothing. roller 20, by a belt 21, which after passing over the pulleys 17, 17, 18, is conducted to a pulley 22, carried upon the end of the shaft of the pasting roller 9. The paper passes over the pasting roller-beneath the pressure roller12 between the feed rollers 13 and 14, between the jaws 23 and 24, of the severing mechanism to the smoothing roller where it is pasted upon the wall, or surface to be covered. The jaw 23' comprises a cylindrically slotted member extending between the side pieces 1 and 2 with its slot arranged in such a position as to be engaged by the toothed edge of the jaw 24:. This latter jaw is provided with journal pins, one of which is extended out to form the operating lever 25, which is connected with a. hand lever 26, by a flexible link 27. The. jaw is normally held in open position by a spring 28,.which is carried by the side member 1. The serrated edge of the knife only perforates or partially severs the paper so that a complete discon-' nection from the main roller is not made until after a substantial partof the next strip to be pasted is underneath the pressure roller. In order that the paper may be trimmed after it is placed in the pasting machine, instead of causing it to be cut by a separate operation, I secure a cutting disk 13 to the end of the roller 13, and a similar disk 15 to the roller 14, which latter disk is-overlapped by As the paper passes between the two the margin thereon is separated from the body of the sheet.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more'extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the this invention as defined in claims. Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent is 1.
