UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JENNIE M. BODENSIEK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUST-SUPPORTER.
No. 912,793. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed. May 28, 1908. Serial No. 435,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, JENNIE M. BoDENsiEK, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, residing at New York, in the borough of Manha tan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 131lst-fiupporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved bust-supporter which is mainly intended for the use of stout women, and which has a certain degree of elasticity so that it fits the bust in a comfortable manner and acts in the nature of a bust-reducer; and for this purpose the invention consists of a bust-supporter which is laced at the front and provided at each side of the front-lacing with recesses having a plu'ality of transverse elastic bands. and which is provided along the edges of the arinholes With loop-shaped elastic shoulder-straps that are stitched at their lower portions to the supporter, as will appear from the following description and claim.
In the a companying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bustsupporier, Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 2, 2, Fig. l, drawn on a larger scale, and Fig. 3 is a side-view of the bust-supporter showing the shoulder-strap of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, a represents a. Mist-supporting unstitlened waistdike garment which is made of suitable light material and acrorrlii'ig o the bust measurements. The garment a is closed at the back and provided with eyelets in the front and lace+=rings b so as to be tightly fitted to the body. in the upper breast portion of the waist (1, at each side of the lacing-strings 5 are arranged recesses 65, preferably of rectangular shape, which extend down raps (Z that are stitched at the ends to the vaist a and covered by a strip (1 the edges of the recesses being preferably ornamented by suitable lace or trimming. At both sides of the waist c are arranged openings for the arms and along the edges of the arm-openings are stitched elastic shoulder-straps e of loop shape. The elastic shoulder-straps are placed over the shoulders and serve to support the waist 12 on the shoulders in such a manner that the shoulders can be freely moved without being inconvenienced by the tension of the waist. The elastic frontstraps of the waist (n serve to support the bust. without discomfort. and permit in connection with the lacing-strings 7) the close fitting of the waist body, while reducing at the same time the bust, which is the general desire of stout women. The bust-supporter serves thereby two objects. namely, to give a con'ifortable fit for and obtain the reduction of the bust. As the bust-supporter is made of soft flexible and attractive material and trimmed with lace. it serves also as a corset-cover. so as to dispense with this garment.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A bust-supporter consisting of an unstiffened waist-like garment cut away at the upper part and provided at each side of the upper breastportion with a recess having unstilfcncd side-edges extending downwardly in the breast-portion from the upper edge of the garment. a plurality of transverse elastic straps extending across each recess and connecting the edges thereof. and elastic shoulder-straps attached to the arm-openings of the garment.
In testimony. that I claim the foregoing as my invention, 1 have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JENNIE M. BODENSIEK.
vardly in said breast-portion. The sideedges of said recesses are unstitfened and' connected by a number of transverse elastic Witnesses PAUL GOEPEL, FAN N IE FISK.
