POLE-CLIMBER.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it kn own that I, HERMAN C. HANsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newcastle, in the county of Dixon and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pole-Climbers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pole climbers and has for its object the production of a simple and economical device of this kind which may be readily fitted to the leg of a person and enable such person to easily and readily climb or scale poles or other uprights without danger of slipping therefrom.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing, the figure is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention engaged with a pole.

In the embodiment illustrated the device comprises a supporting plate 1 provided with an upright body 2, of approximately rectangular form which is adapted to bear against the leg of the wearer, and with a foot piece 3, which projects inwardly approximately at right angles from the lower end of the body, the inner end of the foot piece being provided with a pair of upwardly extending inwardly curved teeth or spurs 4. The outer ends of these teeth or spurs are spaced a sufficient distance apart to receive a portion of a pole 5, or other upright which it is desired to climb and are adapted to bite or penetrate slightly into the same to hold the inner end of the foot piece in secure engaged relation with the pole. A catch 6, in the form of a cylindrical rod is bent at its inner end to form a hook portion 7, adapted to receive and penetrate into the pole and is arranged above the foot piece, the body of the catch extending through a corresponding aperture 8, produced in an outstanding lug or extension 9, provided at the outer end of a brace 10, of approximately right-angular form, one portion, as 11 of which is adapted to extend back of the leg of the wearer and bear Specification of Letters Patent.

The outer end of the catch projects beyond the body of the supporting member and is bent inwardly approximately at right angles to provide an inwardly extending extension 13, which fits in a corresponding socket 14, produced by suitably bending a plate 15, which is riveted or otherwise attached to the outer face of the supporting member body approximately opposite the brace 10. The body of the supporting member is also provided at its upper end and upon its outer face with a strap receiving eye or staple 16, adapted to receive a strap which may be buckled around the leg of the wearer in order to hold the body securely in position.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A pole climber comprising a supporting member having an upright approximately flat body, a brace of approximately rightangular form attached to the inner face of the supporting member, with one portion thereof extending inwardly approximately at right angles therefrom, the outer end of said inwardly projecting portion terminating in an outstanding apertured lug, a catch con nected with the body of the supporting memher and extending through the apertured lug of the brace, the inner end of the catch terminating in a hook portion adapted to receive a pole.

2.
