BUCKLE To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN ALLEN ALcoRN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greeley, in the county of Weld and State of Colorado, have'invented new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buckles for use in connect-ion with straps for securing straps around packages.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the buckle of this invention shown used in connection with a strap applied to a package. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the buckle. F ig. 3 is an edge view thereof showing the manner of securing a strap to the buckle. Fig. 4, is a perspective view of the buckle and strap, showing an easy way of manipulating the same by means of a hand-operated pin or pry.
The buckle contemplated in this invention is constructed in the main of a blank of sheet metal and is stamped up by suitable means to comprise a flat body l and angular end portions which form substantially rectangular eyes 2 and 3 through which portions of the strap indicated at 4 pass. The blank from which the buckle is formed is preferably rectangular so that when the eyes 2 and 3 are bent vertically to one side of thebody and apertured as indicated at 5, the buckle as a whole has a uniform width. The eyes 2 and 3 project preferably at right angles from the body l and are both on the same side of the body, while between the eyes 2 and 3 and arranged about centrally of the body l there is a stud 6 which is secured to the body l and which also projects from the same side of the body as the eyes 2 and 3. The apertures 5 in the eyes are of substantially the same width as the strap 4, one end of which is passed through both of the eyes and provided with a hole to receive the stud 6 after which the end portion of the strap is Specification ofl Letters Patent.

passed around and along the opposite side of the body l and secured to itself by one or more rivets 7 or their equivalent. In this way, the buckle is secured to one end of the strap, the other end of the strap being provided with a longitudinal series of holes 8, any one of which may be placed in engagement with the stud 6 of the buckle.
After passing the strap around the package the perforated end of the strap is inserted through the eyes 5 and 6 and drawn taut until the stud 6 enters and engages with the desired hole S in the strap, thus completing the operation of fastening the package.
In order to facilitate the fastening and unfastening of the package, I provide a pointed pin or pry 9 of suitable length having attached thereto a flexible finger root or strap l0 which is adapted to be passed around one of the fingers of the operators hand, so that the pin 9 will lie in the palm of the hand and project in the direction of the thumb. In order to unfasten the strap, the pointed end of the pin is inserted through the two portions of the strap passing through the eyes 5 in the manner illustrated in Eig. l, said pin lying to one side of the stud 6. The pin thus raises the perforated end portion of the strap and allows the saine to be readily withdrawn from the eyes 2 and 3. In like manner, the pin facilitates the tightening of the st-rap in making up the package as by pulling on the strap, the latter rides easily over the pin 9 until the desired tension has been produced on the strap when the pin 9 is withdrawn and the stud 6 allowed to enter the appropriate hole in the strap.
