BURNER .ADJUSTMENT ruin GAS-lumens.
TAYLOR, -a-citizen ofthe United States, and
. a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas elevation of one4 ofthe burner adjusting. bars.Y Fig. Y3 is a side view ofthe forward 'and State of Ohio,lh`ave invented a certain new and useful'- Burner Adjustment for- Gras-- Ranges'; and I do Ahereby declare the followng'to be a full, clear, and .exact 'description` of the invention, such vas `will i enableoth'ers skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same, .reference being had'. to the accom anying drawings and toth-e' figures of re erence marked thereon, which form a part of this speci-cationl My inventionwrelates to gas ranges, and
h as for its object the provision of sim le and eilicient means for vertically" adjusting 'the' burners t-o adapt them for the burning of artcial or natural gas, asit is necessary to position the burners at a eater ldistance below the stove top when bem'grused for the burmng of natural gas than when being used for the burning of artiicialgas.
The operation, construction and ar'ran e-. ment of the parts of the invention arefu y describedin the following specicatiomand illustrated in the accompanyingv drawings,
' in which- Figui-e1 is a plan view of a range embodyf ig my invention with a portion broken` away' and the top removed. Fig. 2.is a side bar which connects the two adjusting-bars.
Fig. l is a side elevation ofthe range,wi ththe elbow and associated stuffing-box of the ven-burnerand supply-pipe connection in section, and Fig. 5 is a frontview 'of the oven-burner and supply-pipe connection.
Referring tothe drawings, '1 designates an ordinary or any suitable form of gas :range body, and 2, 2 and 2", 2 the forward and rear top burners thereof,-respectively;
Disposed across the front of the range nearthe top thereof in the usual manner is the gas4 feed-pipe 3, which connects 'with Vthe forward burners 2,2 through the pipes '4,4
and with the rear burners 2', 2 through the pipes 5, 5, each of 'which burner-pipes is provided with the mixing-chamber 7.
Secured within the upper portion of the range body to opposite sides thereofarethe side adjusting- bars 8, 8, which., are made customary valvel 6 and vertically adjustable by the retainingscrews .speiaeaon f 4Lettera Patent; Application 'and February 29, 190s.' 'senti no. 418,444.
'Paeentea Feb. 9, 190e.
A 9 through transverse slots'I 10 therein, or in any other suitable manner. 'Theiforward ends of these bars project beyond the front of the range body and are fashioned, as at 11 in Fig.'2, to 'forma support for the feed-pipe 3, which isheld thereto by the top-clamping plates A'12, as shown.
' In order to form Vsup or'ts for the burners, f
which, are adjustable wlth' the b ars l8, 8, Asaid bars(V are connected by the two cross-bars 13 andv14, the former' Yof which passesunder the forward burners 2, 2 in contact there; with, while the latter passes under the rear burners' 2'A 2- Vin contact therewith. The.
ends of the forward lsupport. 13 are vertically offset,as shown at 15, to adapt themv to .pass under the pipesY 5, 5, leading to the rear burners, and `fit -into registering mortisesor'slots'jl in the side bars 8, 8. As the rear support 14 does not pass under any i es it'ismadestr'ai'ght, aslshown, and has xt syends fitted intoj'registermg mort-isesor slots 17 provided in the rear end portions of the mortises or slots 16, as shown in Fig. 2. It is thus apparent that a ra' vor lowering of the side bars.8, Savill e ect a. cor- The 'feed-pipe 31n'1ay have one or both ends lprcwided'with a downwardly-extends- A ing pipe 18, which has its lowerend'slidingly -fitting within the upper end of an elbow. or
or lowered 'with an adjustment of `the burners, its .extension-18 is permitted to slide within the elbow or pipe 19 to accom modate itself to such adjustment. A stuifing-box 20 cooperates with the pipe 18 and elbow `19 to prevent leakage at their point of connection. If desired an ovenburner` branch 21 may be tapped into the supplyr pipe or elbow in the usual or any convenient manner'. The feed-pipe3 is shown in Fig..1 as having each end Yprovided with a downwardextension to' adaptit for connecting with a supply-pipe on either side of the range as` the piping may necessitate.
It is thus apparent that I have'provided a very simple, efficient and easy method of adjusting the top Vburners of a stove to adapt them for the burning of natural or articial gas without necessitating the disconnecting of the stove or pipes for such purpose.
I wish it understood that I do not desire to be restricted tothe exact details of construction and arrangement of the parts shown and described, as obvious modifications will occur to persons skilled in the art..
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, isfv 'I f l l.-A In a gas-range, a supply-pipe, la feedpipe having telescopical stuiiing-box connection with the supply-pipe, burners having valve controlled connection with the feedpipe, andmeans supporting the feed-pipe and burners and vertically adjustable relative to the range. v
a 2. In a gas-range, a pipe having connection with aV source of gas supply, said pipe comprising a fixed part and a relatively adjustable part in telescopical connection with said ixedpart, a burner in valve controlled connection with said adjustable part, and means vertically adjustable relativeto the range for supporting the burner and adjustable pipe part. v
3,'In a gas-range, a supplypipe, a feedpipehaving an end in vertica y-adjustable connection with the supply-pipe, top burners having valve-controlled connection with the feed-pipe, and means lsupporting the feed-pip'e and burners and vertically adjustable relative to the range top.
4.*In a gas-range, a supply-pipe, a plurality ,of burners, a common feed for the burners having vertically-adjustable connection with the supply-pipe, bars secured to the range for vertical adjustment and forming supports for the feed-pipe, and means lburner, a plurality of top burners, a common feed-pipe in valve-controlled communication with the top burners and havin verticallyadjustable oven-burner and supp y-pipe connection, and a vertically-adjustable frame carrying the top-burners and feed-pipe for adjustment therewith.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
