No, 910,950.1' specification of Letters Patent.
Pateneed'ian. 2e, 190e.
- .application iled September 17, 1308. Serial No. 453,444.
To all 'whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. NoLL, a citi.- zen of the United States off America, residing in St. Jacob, county of Madison, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in i ences, of which the following is a full, elettr, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to en improvement in fences and it has for its object the construction of a fence Awhich isnot susceptible to being injured by the elements and is consequently indestructible, l
Figure I is a view` artly in side elevation, and partly in vertica longitudinal section of a section of my fence. Fig. II is an' enlarged horizontal section teken through the posts and one of the railsof a section of my fence with the central portion of said rail broken out. Fig. III is en enlargedvertical section teken on line III- IIL Fie. I, through the rails and one ofthe uprights'olmy fence with the central portlon of said upright broken out. Fig. IV is an enlarged vertical section through the upper end of one of the posts. Fig. V is' an enlarged perspective view ofone end of one of the rails, Fig. VI is an enlarged perspective view of one of the uprights. Y
In the accom' enying drawingszl-desig natos a concrete ence post which is rovided at the points that receive the rais ofthe r'ence with sockets 2. kThese sockets are molded in the' concrete post when it is originally made and each postis produced with a' vertical pocket 3 that extends downwardly from the top of the body of the post and isv adapted to receive a. connecting rod to be hereinafter more particularly mentioned.
4 designates concrete rails which are mold-A ed with tenons 5 a't .their ends that'4 are adapted to enter into the sockets 2in the fence post. Each rail has molded in ita tie wire 6 that is providedat the ends of the rail with 'e loop 7 that is adapted .to enter into the socket 2 in the fence post thatreccives the tenon at the end of the rail corresponding to that at which the particularloop is present.V The tiewires 6 are preferably so formed as to resent endless strands as seen in Pig. II. TVhen each rail 4 is mold ed, there is produced therein e channel 8 that is ddapted to receivel a connecting rod to be tic-ularly referred to. Y
9` designates concrete uprights'4 each i of which is provided at its ends with tenons 10 that are adapted `to enter` into sockets 4 in the rails 4,"se'e Fi s. I and III. Each up'- right hasembedde .in it e tie wire 1l Iprefer ably of endless shape, as seen in Fig. I and which isl provided at'the ends of the upright with -loops 12 that extend beyond the ends of the tenons 10.
13 designates tie rods that are inserted into the channels 8 in the rails 4 and .Which,. bypassing through the lops 12 of theI e011-,
-necting Wires in the uprights 9 serve to conpresently more par-v nect said uprights to the rails 4 that receive them,` whereby the rails and uprights are firmly united to eachother.
14 designates' connecting rods that are introduced into pockets in the posts 1 end are passed through the loops 7 at the outer ends of vthe tie Wires in the rails 4 thereby serving to connect seid rails to the. posts after the tenons ofi the rails have been'inserted into the sockets of the posts. Each post 1 is preferably surmounted by a head 15 which is adapted to be placed in tenon and socket .en-,
gagement with the body ofV the post, as seen in Figs. I and IV. vThe connecting rod 14 mounted ineach po'st is provided at its upper end with a loop 16 that is embedded in the heed of the post and retained therein by an anchor key or pin 17 that. extends transversely of said loop.
I clniinz- 1. A structure of the kind described, comprising concrete posts, connecting rods in .said posts, concrete rails tted to seid posts, tie Wires in said rails inserted into said posts and enga-ged by seid connecting rods, yand Acoicrete uprights interposed between said nu s.
2. Astructure of the kind described, comprislng concrete posts connecting rods 1nsaid connecting rods, con-- provided with sockets and itted into the of the uprights, and connecting rods in scid sockets in said posts, tie Wires in said rails posts cnd'rails inserted through the loops in engaged by the connecting rods in said posts, the tie Wires of the rails and uprights, suband conlcrete uprights iittedin the sockets in stantiolly as set forth.
