Description

H. E. BLEMKER. Heating Drum.
No 91,073. Patented June 8, 1869.
- efinite-II giant 13mm Gtfliliw.
Letters Patent No. 91,073, dated June 8, 1869.
STOVE-DRUM The Schedule referred to in thesel-etters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRYE. BLEMKER, of Evansville,- in the county of Vanderbnrg, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Stove- Drum; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, in which- Figurelis a vertical section through line a: x of Figure 2 is a horizontal section through line y y of fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to provide an attachable and detachable device of improved construction, designed to be attached to heating-stoves in order to secure more perfect combustion of the fuel and smoke, a better draught, and better radiation of the heat. To this end,
The device consists of two drums, connected to gether by a system of parallel pipes, the upper drum being pivoted with a smoke-escape pipe, and the lower end of the lower drum being left open, so that it can he slipped upon the upper end of the stove, as seen in fig. 1, (the stove being shown in red lines.)
In the drawings- A is the upper, and B, the lower drum, 0 O 0 being the connecting-pipes, and D, the smoke-escape pipe. The latter extends from the under side of the upper drum downward nearly or quite to the lower drum, as seen in fig. 1 then turning and extending upward.
The upper dr in may also have an opening, a, and flange, a, upon which a'smoke-pipe can be fixed, when desirable, to conduct the smoke, &c., vertically up from the drum A, instead of conducting it first downward and then upward, as above described.
This flange may have a sheet-metal cap, a,- by which it can be closed when the lower pipe D is used. In that case, the upper ,hole it might frequently be serviceable as a pot-hole, for heating water, 850., in
small vessels.
This attachment can be employed either with wood or coal-stoves, and whether the stove be new or old. I The lower drum detains the smoke until it thoroughly consumes, thereby saving a considerable amount of fuel.
The two dr'ums, and the pipes'between them, present an extensive heatingsurface, which greatly increases the power of the stove as a heater.
The pipes, also, cause afreer draught than could be effected by a single drum.
The upper drum still further detains the heated products of combustion, for the purpose of effecting a thorough radiation of all the heat thereof. The bent pipe D promotes the same object.
The whole forms a neat, effective, convenient, and serviceable attachment to heating-stoves, that greatly increases their heating-capacity, causing them to consume the smoke, &c., much more perfectly, and promoting not only a free and thorough combustion of the fuel to the best advantage, but also, the fullest radiation of the heat thereby generated.
I do not claim a device like the one above described, when inseparably attached to and made a part of a heating-stove; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the removable attachment to heating-stoves, above described, consisting essentially of the drums A B, pipes G O D, opening'a, flange a, and cover a, all constructed, arranged, and adapted for use in connection with the stove, substantially as herein set forth, and for the purposes specified.
