LOUIS KIRSGH, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
ATTACHIVIENT FOR NECKTIES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
Application filed November 29, 1907. Serial No. 404,448.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs Kmsorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Neckties, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to neck tie fasteners, and the object of the invention is to provide a neck tie fastener comprising a catch adapted to be secured upon the tie and a button of novel construction adapted to engage with the catch, the parts being so constructed as to securely engage with each other and to entirely prevent accidental displacement, and enables them to be sepa rated from each other when desired.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction of neck tie fasteners hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a catch and button constructed in accordance with my invention, the catch being shown secured u on a neck tie. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts in engaged position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the parts in engaged position. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the button members. Fig. 5 is a vertical section upon the line 5-5 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the catch member, and Fig. 7 is a sectional view upon the line 77 of Fig. 6.
In the drawing the numeral 1 designates the catch member of my improved neck tie fastener and the numeral 2 the button member of the fastener adapted for engagement with the catch member.
The catch member 1 is composed of a single sheet of any suitable metal having its ends provided with the perforations 3, by which it is adapted to be sewed or otherwise secured upon a neck tie, and the catch is provided with diametrically opposite disposed arms 4 adapted to be curled upon themselves to present the resilient catch members 5 and 6. The catch or engaging members 5 and 6 are of the cylindrical shape, shown in the drawings, and have their meeting faces spaced slightly away from each other, and each of the meeting faces is provided with a central opening or slit 7 adapted for the reception of centrally disposed offsets 8 arranged upon each face of the button member 2.
The button member 2 is composed of a single piece of metal bent upon itself to form the lip 9 of an approximately elliptical formation, and having its free ends bent away from each other to form the head 10 adapted for the reception of a suitable cover or casing 11. As illustrated in the drawing the button member of the button comprises a substantially fiat face or shank and the oflset 8 upon the face arrangedat the meeting of the lip and face of the shank, is stamped or embossed upon each face of the shank of the button.
It is, of course, understood that the catch member of the fastening device is adapted to be engaged or secured upon a neck tie, while the button member is adapted to be inserted within the button hole of the shirt of a wearer.
The application of the device will be readily apparent, the neck tie having the catch member, is inserted upon the button member, the flat elliptical lip 9 of the button separating the resilient engaging members 5 and 6 of the catch and the offset 8 being positioned within the slot 7 of the engaging members, the two elements are securely engaged with each other. WVhen it is desired to remove the tie, it is simply necessary to pull the tie away from the button, when the resilient engaging members 5 and 6 will spread away from the lip 9 of the button, and the neck tie be readily disengaged from the button.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A neck tie fastener comprising a catch member and a button member, the catch member comprising a plate having perforations at its edges whereby it is secured upon the tie, and oppositely disposed arms bent upon themselves to form engaging members, the members being provided with a central cutaway portion, the button member having a flat shank provided with an elliptical lip and central offsets or projections, the lip adapted to engage the engaging arms of the catch member, and the ofi'sets or projections of the button member adapted to lie within the cutaway portions provided upon the engaging arms of the catch member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS KIRSCH.
