Inventor-f A Y jfarl' JPoZer end of the slot 9, which is made of a slightly less length than the entire width of the projection 8. v
The lid projection 8, above referred to, serves not only as a hinge member for securing the lid to the cup, but also as a fingerpiece by which the lid may be conveniently raised, this finger piece being located directly over the handle 12 of the cup. The handle may be formed in any desired manner, but as here shown is constructed of a short length of twisted wire, the extremities of which are inserted in a slit 13 and normally lie between the inner and outer plies of the rear wall of the outer covering.
To maintain the lid of the cup normally in closed position, the lid of the cup is provided with a suitable closing device, which,
f in the embodiment here shown, consists of a resilient band 14, preferably of ordinary india rubber, which is passed over the lid and around the bottom of the cup, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, and is held in place on the lid by means of notches 15 on either side thereof.
For the purpose of convenient packing and transportation the lid may be readily removed from the cup by turning up the edges of the projection 8 into the position shown in Fig. 4, withdrawing the projection from the slot 9 and slipping off the rubber band 14. The inturned fiange 6 may then be extended or turned outwardly, thus enabling a number of cup bodies to be nested together.
While I have shown a preferred embodiment of my construction, for purposes of illustration, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiment here shown.
Claim.
1. A covered vessel comprising a body portion provided with a handle and having a flap extending up from the rim at one wall of the vessel at the rear of the plane of such wall of the vessel, and provided with a slot located in the plane of t-he rim and forming a hinge member and a lid having a projection adapted to pass through said slot and to serve as a hinge member and finger piece for raising the lid, the defined location of the Hap being such as to permit the raising of the cover to a vertica position, said flap serving as a backing or support for the cover when fully raised, and means for preventing accidental disengagement of said lid from the vessel.
2. A covered vessel comprising a body portion provided with a handle and having a flap extending up from the rim at one wall of the vessel at the rear of the plane of such Wall of the vessel, a lid for the vessel, said lid and said flap having an interengaging slot and tongue connection permitting pivotal movement of the lid upon the vessel, said lid having a finger piece for raising the lid, the defined location of the flap being such as to permit the raising of the lid to a vertical position, said flap serving as a' backing or support forv the lid when fully raised, and means for preventing accidental disengagement of said lid from the vessel, an elastic member extending over the lid and around the body of the vessel, said lid having notches to receive the elastic member and to prevent relative displacement of the lid and the elastic member when the former is vertically positioned.
3. A receptacle comprising a body portion having a bottom, and sides and intermediate folding corner portlons uprising from said bottom and a reinforcing and covering member adapted to be suitably attached to the receptacle and comprising a longitudinal strip folded to provide walls adapted to be attached to the walls of the main receptacle, and to form continuations thereof in substantially the plane of the walls of such main receptacle, the upper ends of said Walls being down turned and inwardly inclined to pre-v vent the escape of the contents of the cup.
4. A receptacle comprising an inner body portion having a bottom, and sides and folding corner portions uprising therefrom, and a covering and reinforcing member adapted to be secured upon the outer sides of the said body portion and formed as a strip having portions corresponding to the said walls of the cup and an extending portion adapted to be positioned parallel to a side Wall of the inner receptacle, the attachment thereto of a cover, and a cover adapted to be secured to such extended portion.
5. A receptacle comprising an inner body portion having a bottom, and sides and folding corner portions uprising therefrom, and a covering and reinforcing member ada ted to be secured upon the outer sides of the said body portion and formed as a strip having c portions corresponding to the said Walls of the cup and an extending portion adapted to be positioned parallel to a side Wall of the inner receptacle, said extending portion having an uprising flap provided with a slot and a lid for the receptacle having a tongue v or projection extending through said slot, thereby affording a hinged connection, the location of the slot in the flap of the extending portion permitting the elevation of the lid to a vertical position.
6. A receptacle comprising an inner body portion having an integral bottom, and upfolding sides and intermediate corner portions, and an outer reinforcing and covering` member formed as a. strip having members adapted to be positioned upon'the outer faces of the sides of the inner body portion, l
the upper portions of said members being ger piece, whereby the cover may be tilted 10 down turned and inwardly inclined to preinto an uprightposition.
