' CARL HJALMAR PETERSON, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 6, 1908.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
Serial No. 431,143.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL HJALMAR PETER- sON, a citizen of the United States, resident of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Shade and Curtain Hangers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a side view of the bracket as applied. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the bracket from the opposite side.
The invention relates to fixtures for hanging curtains and shades wherein the curtain pole and shade roll will be carried by the same fixtures and wherein the fixtures will be provided with improved means for attaching the same to the window casing without the use of separate nails or screws.
With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates 'a fixture which comprises a body portion having a long vertical branch 0/, and a short horizontal branch a, said long branch having an arm 6, extending therefrom at right angles thereto and provided with a double curvature whereby an outer concaveseat c, for the curtain pole is provided.
In order to provide for upholding the shade roll a circular support d, is cast inte gral with the bracket, said su port being located between the arm b, and tlie long branch a, of the fixture forming a bracing connection between said branch and arm. The circular extension of the bracket at one side of the shade roll is suitably slotted at e, for the reception of the journal of the roll and the similar extension of the bracket at the o posite side is provided with a central per oration 0, for the journal of the opposite end of the roll, a concavity 6 being provided in the extension having the perforation 0, whereby by the end pin of the roll will be guided to its place therein.
The short horizontal branch (1 has a slender downward extending vertical pointed drive lug f, which is first driven home into the top of the window casing by the application of a hammer or mallet to the branch of which it forms a part. The inward extending horizontal pointed drive lug g, forming a part of the long vertical branch a, and located near its lower end is then driven into the side of the window casing in a similar manner, the wood of the casing giving way sufiiciently for the small dis lacement of the drive lug f, required. The bracket may be readily removed when desired and forms a convenient device for the purpose, doing away with the necessity for separate curtain pole supports and consequent battering and perforation of the window casing.
Having described the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
As a new article of manufacture, a combined shade roll and curtain pole support cast in one piece and including a body having a long vertical branch and a short upper horizontal branch, said vertical branch having a double curved arm at right angles thereto,
and provided with an outer concave seat, and a bracing circular shade roll support located between said arm and long vertical branch and partly above said arm, the vertical and horizontal branches being provided with pointed drive lugs at right angles to each other.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
C. HJALMAR PETERSON. Witnesses:
O. M. LINDHOLM, CARL EDVARD PETERSON.
