Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAN D. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Littleton, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screen-Door Attachments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable otaers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to attachments for doors, and particularly to attachments for screen doors.

The obj ect of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will drive the flies on the outside away when the door is opened so that they will not enter, and w .ich will operate to drive them away also when the door is closing.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will also act to automatically close the door.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be attached to any door which will be efficient in operation and comparatively inex ensive.

Vith these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described alnd particularly pointed out in the appended c aim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of the outside of the door when closed. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the outside of the door when open. Fig. 3 is a top plan view with parts broken away, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the line 41l of Fig. 3.

Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the frame and 2 the door which is secured thereto by the hinges 3, in the usual manner. To the upper part of the inside of the door I secure a frame 4 which comprises a horizontal member 5, which is bridged across the side piece of the door, and a vertical member 6. rllhis frame has secured at its opposite ends a pair of pulleys 7 and 8, the latter located on the outer extremity of the horizontal piece 5 and the former located upon the bottom of the vertical piece 6. Intermediate these two pulleys at approximately the center of the door I provide a bracket 9 which overhangs the horizontal piece 5 and has secured to its front face a bearing plate 10 in between which and the bracket is journaled a roller or drum 11. projecting stub shaft 12, upon which is secured the fan disk 13, having the radiating fan arms 14 secured thereto. The outer ends of these arms are bent to form clamping members 15, in which suitable brushes 16, are secured. The upper end of the vertical piece 6 is provided with an outwardly projecting stub shaft upon which a ulley 17 is traveled, and at right angles t ereto is a similar pulley 18 mounted upon a bracket piece 19, secured to the side of the vertical piece 6.

To the top of the bracket piece 6 I secure one end of a spiral spring 20, which has connected to its opposite end a cord or chain 21, which passes inst over the pulley 8 and then around the drum 11 to the pulley 7, and from thence over the pulleys 17 and 18 from whence it is connected to an eye 22 in the top of the frame.

It will be seen that when the door is opened that as one end of the cords is stationarily connected to the eye 22 and that the pulley 18 is traveling away therefrom, the other end which is flexibly connected to the spring 22 will be drawn over the pulleys 8, 7 and 17, and will revolve the drum 11 with its associated fan or brush blades. As soon as the door is released the spring 20 retracts and causes the fan or brush arms to revolve in the opposite direction and the door closes under tension of the spring.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as deiined in the appended claim.
