FLY-BRUSH.

Beit known that I, WILSON D. TRIEM, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Fly-Brush, of which the following is a specication.

The invention relates to improvements in iiy-brushes.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of fly-brushesand to provide a simple and inexpensive one adapted to be arranged at a door and to be used in connection therewith and capable of being operated when the door is opened and of closing the same similar to a door-sprin g, thereby dispensing with the necessity of employing the latter.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a fly-brush constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied to a door. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.

l designates a vertically-disposed rotaryflybrush mounted on a door-frame 2, adjacent to the free edge of a door 3, at the upper portion thereof, and supported by upper and lower brackets 4 and 5. The rotary iiy-brush is preferably constructed with a sleeve 6, which is mounted on a vertical rod 7. The upper portion of the sleeve forms a drum and has wound around it a cord 8, which has its outer end secured to an arm 9 of the door, and within the sleeve is arranged a spiral spring 1l, which has one end connected with the sleeve and the other end connected to the rod. W'hen the door is opened, the sleeve is rotated by the unwinding of the cord, operating the iiy-brush and distending the spring, whereby when the door is released the spring will operate to close the door and simultaneously rotate the sleeve, rewinding the cord thereon, the spring thus performing the double function of a doorspring for closing the door and a spring for operating the fly-brush and rewinding the cord.

The arm 9 is substantially L-shaped and is arranged at the top of the door, and when the door is closedY its outer portion extends in advance of the fly-brush in a position to enable the spring to hold the door firmly closed, and the cord extends from the outer end of the arm directly to the drum of the iiy-brush without any intermediate connection with the door-casing.

It will be seen that the fly-brush is exceedin gly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is readily adapted for screen and other doors, and that it is capable of automatic operation and will rotate when the door opens and closes and will prevent liies from entering a house when the door is being used. It will also be apparent that the spring operates to close the door and dispenses with a doorspring usually employed for this purpose, and it also serves to operate the iiy-brush as the vdoor closes and to rewind the cord on the drum.

Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any advantages of the invention.

lVhat I claim is- The combination with a door, of the upper and lower brackets arranged at the upper portion of the free edge of the door and mounted on the door frame or casing, a verticallydisposed rotary brush journaled on the brackets, supported by the same and provided with a drum, a spring concealed within the drum and connected with and adapted to actuate the same, the L-shaped arm 9 mounted on the door and extending horizontally therefrom to a point beyond the outer side of the liy-brush when the door is closed, and a cord wound around the drum and extending directly from the outer end of the L'shaped arm to the said drum, whereby the door is adapted to be oompletely closed without any intermediate connection of the cord with the casing, substantially as described.
