-Be 1t known 'that-IKRrs"r1AN LYE, sergeant, a citizen of Norway, resi-ding at Opheimsgaden 69,y Stavanger, Norway, lhave invented new andV useful Improvements '1n Opening Devices -forCan s, of which the following is a s pecil'ication.' l
I My present invention relates p to' nnprovements in opening devices 4for censor boxes adapted to contain preserved fruit, snuff, to-
bacco, etc. The opening device forming'the object of this invention'is equally applicable to round, rectangular, oval or otherwise formed cans. Further my opening device i's of such a kind, that soldering can be thoroughly-dispensed with. 'lhe accompanying drawing illustrates by way of examplejsome forms-of the present opening device. l l Figure 1 is a side view of box body and cover beforethe parts have been folded together. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the boxbody shown in Fig'. 1. Figs. 3 and 4; are sid'e view and plan view of the'boxlin a ready state. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 1-1, Fig. .4.
Fig. 6 is a section on the line 2-.-2, Fig. 4.
Fig. i5.\a section Icorresponding toFig. 6 vshowmgthe parts after the opening has `begun. Fig. S is. aplan view showing a r'nodiiied arrangement of the opening lines. Fig. 9 section on .the line 3 3, Fig. 8, and Fig. 10 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. 8 and showing the parts after the opening has begun. l
The box body -c is pressed out with an upperilange '-6- tuined outwards (Fig. .1),
[and corresponding thereto the cover -chas a seam flange' At a suitable place of the rlanga-t.- is arranged an extension or opening ha, -i-cintegral-with the flange -b--, andprefe'rably around the root of saivd lip weakening lines -fare provided `in the sheet material.
together in the manner illustrated in Fig. 5.
l During this` folding the inner part of the lip trated in Fig. 6, while the -outer part of thelip projects outfroni the seam, see Fig. 6.
When the box shall be opened thelip --eis caught in usual manner by the opening key and rolled around the same.. Hereby the'inner endl of the lip is pulled out Afrom the seam and the llange material clof the cover isat the Sametime torn out at Sipecic-ation 'of Letters Patent. l I Alipplicration filed .Tune 12', 41907.- Serial No. 378,550.
the pm, into which the lips located. said part ofthe material- -d-- is thus coiled to.
gether with -the lip around the opening key. vWhen now the lip is quite separated from the box body along the lines. -fthe materials '-eand -dhave been .coiled so lrmlytogether, that theurther opening (see Fig. 7) will take place, as if the coiled partsfcand -dwere integral, the material o f the cover being separated along the weakening'linesx-g- (Fig. 4).
In order that the contents -of the box may .be laid completely open, the device may be' arranged as illustrated' in Figs. 8-10, in" .which the lip. -e'-'- is arranged in a corner of a rectangular box,the cover of which is provided with: two parallel weakening lines J1/ whereby not the whole cover, but only -the strip -filocated between the lines *ltis coiled 'around the opening key ,-cas illustrated in Fig. 10. When this strip. i has been tornout all around the cover, the box can be easily emptied by turning it over. l I
. Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with-a box body having an upper seaming flange, and a lip forming at a suitable vplace an extension of said `flange, ofweakening lines arranged around 'the root of the lip7 .a coverv provided with a corresponding seaming flange folded togetherwith the llange' of the box body in order to hermetically seal the box, weakening lines arranged in, the cover beginning at the inner end of the'lip and passing near the with the flange of the box body in order 'to 'Y hermetically seal the box, two parallel weakening lines arranged in the cover beginning at the inner end of the lip and following round the box the outer of said parallel weakening lines being located above the Patented Dee. '2 9, 1908,.
.seam all around the box, the inner part of ico t seam andvsid lines'forming between them a 'the buter part .of the lip' projects from the 'seam'. so las tbbe adapted to -beicaught by 9,
