AARON S. NICHOLS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MANICURING- IMPLEMENT.
Application filed February 19, 1908.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Serial N0. 416,768.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON S. NICHOLS, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Manicuring Implements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the construction of manicuring implements for cleaning and polishing the finger nails.
It consists in the novel construction and novel combination of parts and devices hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the device. Fig. 2 is an outside view. Figs. 3 and 1 are sections on the lines 33 and 44 respectively of Fig. 1.
In the drawing, 5 represents a hollow cylinder adapted to serve as a handle for the implement, and in this cylinder, I place a supply of soft string, ribbon, or similar :[ilament 10 adapted to be used as a polishing agent. This string is coiled in the handle, and its outer end is adapted to be drawn out a little at a time, it is used. In the end of the cylinder 5, I place a tapering split nut 6 threaded into the cylinder and adapted to be tightened therein by turning the head 7, and also adapted when tightened to grip the string firmly. The end of the filament is threaded centrally through the nut and the head, so that it can be taken hold of and drawn out and attached to the further end of a bowed wire 8, one end of which is secured in the head, as plainly shown. The outer end of this wire is formed with a bight 9 so that by giving the end of the string a turn or two,
the string may be cllectually fastened in the bight. The device is ready for use when the string is thus secured in the bight and gripped by the nut so that a section of it is exposed and held in an extended condition permitting it to be worked back and forth under the nail as illustrated in Fig. 1. It may also be drawn back and forth over the outer surface of the nail as a polishing device.
\Yhen the portion of the string which is exposed and used has become worn or soiled, a fresh portion may be drawn out and secured at the outer end of the bow in a moment of time, the nut being loosened in the handle to permit the string to be drawn out, and tightened as soon as the requisite amount has been withdrawn.
1 claim- 1. The manicuring implement consisting of a hollow handle, a split nut in the end of the handle adapted to grasp the string as it passes through the nut, a head for tightening the nut, and a bow attached to the head and projecting in front of the handle, said bow having means for frictionally engaging the outer end of the string.
2. The device for manicures use, eonsisting of a hollow handle supplying the polishing filament, a tapering split nut in one end of the handle adapted to clamp the string, means for tightening the nut, and a bow projecting from the handle and provided with means for securing the outer end of the filament.
