CURTAIN-POLE-LIFTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA HALLGREN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole-Lifting Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a curtain pole lifting device, and the primary object of my invention is, to provide a simple and inexensive device by which a curtain pole can be readily elevated and obtained from a window-frame, without the use of a step ladder, chair or similar elevating article.
A further object of my invention is to provide a novel device that can be easily manipulated to grip a curtain pole and remove the same from its supporting brackets.
WVith these and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and ar rangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure l is a front elevation of a portion of my device, illustrating the manner in which the same is used for elevating and obtaining a curtain pole, Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the device partly broken away, and Fig. 3 is a similar view of a modified form.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a window-frame having brackets 2 for supporting a curtain pole 3. In order that this curtain pole can be easily removed from the brackets, without the use of a step ladder or similar elevating article, I have devised a novel hook-shaped member for engaging the pole and raising it from the brackets 2, this member being provided with a pole or han dle, whereby the curtain pole can be lowered to a person standing upon the floor beneath the window-frame.
A hook shaped member in accordance with this invention is formed from two wire arms each provided with an elongated body portion 4 extending at right angles with respect to the pole or handle 6 and having one end thereof as at 4 bent downwardly at right angles and engaging in the to of the pole or handle 6. The other end of t e body portion 4 terminates in an upright supporting portion 4 which merges in a roarwardly extending suspension portion 4 the latter merging into a depending hook shaped portion 5. The ends el of each of the arms are secured to the pole or handle 6 of a ferrule or sleeve 7. The depending hook-shaped portions 5 of the arm are a sullicient distance apart so as to enable the balancing of the curtain pole 3 when the same is being elevated or lowered.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings, I have illus trated a slight modification, whereby the hook-shaped ends 5 are formed to engage a pole that is rectangular in cross section, and in this connection, I reserve the right to form the arms 4 to grip poles of various shapes.
It will of course be understood that the pole or handle 6 is of a sullicient length to allow a person to stand upon a floor and obtain the curtain pole 3, without the use of a step ladder or without injuring the curtains carried by the pole 3.
It is a well known fact that ersons particularly women are often injured when using step ladders, and with this fact in view I have devised the curtain pole elevating device.
My invention is susceptible to such changes as are permissible by the appended claim.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
A curtain pole elevating device comprising a handle, a pair of arms having angular innor ends extending in said handle, a ferrule for connecting the angular inner ends of said arms together and to said handle, said arms extending at right angles with respect to the handle and each com n'ising an elongated body portion terminating in an upright supporting portion, the latter merging at its upper end in a roarwardly extending portion extending in a plane at right angles to the body portion, said roarwardly extending por tion merging into a depending hook shaped portion, the base of the hook shaped portion being substai'ltially at right angles to the plane in which extends the body portion.
