Description

nuota' gaat @anni otitis.
Letters Patent No. 90,641, dated June 1, 1869.
IMPRQVED TRACE-BUCKLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, E. A. OROWNHART, of Bridge-v port, in the county of Madison, and State of' New York, have invented a new and improved Trace- Buekle; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the'accompanying drawings, forming pai-tofl this specilication, in which Figure l is a side view;
Figure 2 is a sectional side view; and
Figure 3 is a front view.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.
This invention consists in a buckle-frame having a wide, dat web 0r bearing for the tug to rest against, anda corresponding flat plate, which is pivoted tothe outer parts of the buckle-flame, and provided with a tixed tongue and also a thumb-piece or projection for opening the buckle; the arrangement of said plates being such as to hold the tug fair and straight, and give a degree of clamping-pressure when strain is brought upon the tug, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawings- A is the tug;
B is the haines-tug;
C is the buckle-frame; and
1 is the swinging tongue-plate.
The buckle-frame A is cast with a broad, at web or backing, c c, asshown in fig. 2, and with a pair of ears, e e, to which is pivotcd a dat plate,rD, by means of pivot f, said plate having a xed tongue, d, fig. 2, f
and also a projection, g, which serves as a handle for opening the buckle.`
When strain is applied to the tug A, the tongueend of plate D is forced down, and the tugis compressed between the plates D and c, and is held by means of said pressure, and by the tongue d, engaging with holes -in the tug, as usual.
The heel i, ofthe lplate D, can be extended suioently to the rear to prevent the buckle from opening `too easily, so the tongue will not become disengaged incidentally while the tug is slack.
1 do not claim separately either 'a buckle-flame having a broad, dat beairing-surface, or a pivoted eccentric clamping plate, as I am aware that these features, so considered, are old; but having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The trace-buckle, consisting of the frame O, curved up at the front, and cast with the broad, flat bottom c, ears e e, and side loops, and the clamping-plate D hun g on rod f, between the ears e e, and having the projection d, heel t, and part g, all constructed andl arranged substantially as herein described.
The above specification of my invention signed by' me, this 2d day of March, 1869.
E. A. OROWNHART.
