This invention relates to improvements in devices for preventing the creeping of railroad rails, and has for its object the construction of an anti-creeping-device which can be clamped to the base of'a rail-road rail so as to be secured against longitudinal-slipping thereon, and which device can also be se-.
curely spiked to the rail-road cross-tieon each side of the rail. These and other features of my invention are hereinafter set vforth and explained, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved anti-creeping device for rail-road rails in place upon a section of said rail. Fig, 2 is a sectional view thereof on the line x;v looking in the direction of the arrow y, in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of a portion of my device on the line z-z in Fig. 2.
In these drawings A indicates an ordinary cross-tie, and B an ordinary rail-road rail commonly used in the construction of railroads, which rail B is secured to the cross-tie A by means of spikes Oin the ordinary manner.
For the urpose of preventing the creeping of therail in the direction of the arrow w (see Fig. .1) which is usually down grade and in the direction of the traverse of the railroad trains on double-track roads, I provide a bar D, which is adapted to pass underneath the rail B, and on one end d thereof I construct a box-like inclosure or mortise d (see Fig. 3) which is open on the edge next to the rail and also on the edge next to the crosstie, in which mortise I secure the end of a bar E by means of a rivet e. The bar E is then secured to the cross-tie A by means of spikes driven through holes 6' therethrough and into the cross-tie A. It will thus be, seen that in the structure hereinbefore described I have an anti-creep device for rail-road rails that is not only capable of being secured upon the rail against longitudinal movement thereon, but one which also is capable of being sccurcd to the cross-tie upon each side of the rail B, thus insuring a straight-away cndwisc pull upon all parts thereof Having thus described my invcntionso as to enable others to construct and operate the same what I claim as new and desire to sccure by Letters-Patent is:
1. In an anti-creep device for rail-road rails abar adapted to pass transversely underneath the rail adjacent to a cross-tie, means to connect each end of said bar to said cross-tie, a toothed jaw on one end of said jaw to bite into the base of said rail, substantially as set forth. I
2. The combination in an anti-creep devioe for rail-road rails, of a bar adapted to pass transversely underneath the rail having.

3. In an anti-creep device for rail-road rails the combination of a bar adapted to be inserted transversely under a rail-road rail adjacent to a cross-tie, means adapted to maintain a fixed distance between said cross tie and said bar, a toothed block, means to secure the same upon one end of said transverse bar, clamping meanson the opposite end of said transverse bar adapted to clamp a rail a ainst said toothed block and means adapted to retain said clamp in a closed position, substantially asset forth.
4. In an anti-creep device the combination with the cross-tie and rail, of a bar spiked to said tie, another bar secured to the free end of said first mentioned bar and passing transversely underneath said rail, a toothed. jaw secured to said transverse bar on one side of said rail, a clamp cam pivoted to the other end of said transverse bar at the opposite side of said rail, and'a lever to operate said cam adapted to be spiked to said cross-tfie, substantially as set'forth.
5. In an anti-creep device for rail-road rails the combination with a cross-tie and rail, of a bar adapted to be secured to said tie with the free end thereof projecting over the side of the cross-tie, a transverse bar secured to the free end of said first mentioned i bar, a toothed jaw on the end of said transverse bar at one side of said rail, means to prevent said toothed jaw from falling below i stantially as set forth.
.6. In an anti-c-ree device for rail-road rails, a transverse bar aving a lip at one end thereof adapted to overlap the edge of the base of the rail, and a mortise-like pocket between said lip and the body of said bar, a toothed block adapted to be placed within said pocket, a cam pivoted on the opposite end of said transverse bar having a lip overhanging the bearing face thereof adapted to overlap the edge of the base of the rail, and means adapted to rigidly secure each end of the transverse 'bar at the desired distance from a cross-tie, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
