HAIR-CURLER.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Lady MARIA GERTRUDE DEOIES, of Sefton-Park, Slough, in the county of Buckingham, England, baroness, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Hair-Curlers, of which the foflowing is a specification.

This invention has reference to and comprises improvements in and relating to the construction of hair curlers of the class in which the hair is wound around one part or arm which is then secured by clipping or clamping to another art to hold it in position, and has for its 0 jeot the roduction of an ornamental hair curler W ich will not break or tear the hair of the user.

In order that others skilled in the art to which my invention relates may properly understand same, I have hereunto appended one sheet of explanatory drawings in which Figure 1 is a side view of the hair curler in its open position, Fig. 2 asimilar view showing the hair wound on to the main arm, Fig. 3 also a similar view but showing the movable arm closed down and clamped in position, while Fig. 4 is a side view illustrating a modified construction. Fig. 5 is a plan corresponding to Figs. 1 to 3. Fig. 6 is a plan view drawn to a larger scale of a piece of covered ribbon wire, with the covering partially broken away; Fig. 7 is a section of the wire on the line 77, Fig. 6, and Fig. 8 is a section on the line 88, Fig. 1, showing the covered wire ready for use.

Referring to these drawings :In carrying this invention into effect or ractice the hair curler is formed of tough exible material covered with thin soft leather A secured by sewing, or by other equivalent material to prevent damage to the hair and is constructed in two main parts as follows :One part B consists of a short length of the material technically known as ribbon wire and commonly used by milliners and as shown in Figs. 6 to 7, is composed of wires E of tough flexible metal in combination with a fabric of cotton or other fibrous material F. The length of ribbon wire is covered with leather A as shown particularly in Fig. 8 and has one end 0: reverted or bent as shown in Fig. 1,

this end being ca able of being bent to an angle and reverte as shown in Fig. 3 repeatedly as desired without breaking. This part B may however be reverted at both ends C and D, as shown by Fig. 4, if desired. The other part or arm G consists of another length of the same material, or it may be of any flexible elastic or sprin y metal or material also covered with leat er and secured to the art B by one end being secured to the end D of the part B, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 or it may be as shown in Fig. 4 beneath the reverted end D of the main part.

In use the reverted end C is opened and the arm G raised to the positions shown in Fig. 1. The hair to be curled is then wound on to the part B, as indicated in Fig. 2, when the arm G is closed down on it and secured by the end C being closed down over the end of the arm as shown in Fig. 3. Otherwise the hair may be wound onto the arm G which is afterwards closed down and secured by the reverted end C of the part B.

Instead of wire or metal plate the hair curler may be made of any suitable tough flexible or elastic material, which will fulfil the desired conditions.

To give an ornamental appearance when in use rosettes I or 100 s of narrow ribbon are attached to each on as shown in Fig. 5, but these, of course, may be dispensed with if desired.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. Hair curlers composed of wire ribbon covered with soft leather and formed in two parts secured together, substantially as set forth.

2. In hair curlers the combination of parts consisting of a length of ribbon wire covered with soft leather with reverted ends and an arm of same material secured thereto substantially as set forth.
