COMBINED MOSQUITO-BAR AND TABLE ATTACHMENT FOR BEDSTEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1908.
Application filed December 17, 1907. Serial No. 406,844.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY E. C. OowDRnY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the county of Early and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Mosquito-Bar and Table Attachment for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved attachment for bedsteads, outs and cribs for su orting a mos uito bar or canopy and a table over the be l.
The details of construction, arrangement, and combination of parts are as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a erspective view showing my improved attac ment applied to a bed. Fig. 2 is mainly a vertical section of the lower portion of the attachment, the frame or support proper for the mosquito bar or net being omitted. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the collapsible frame or support for a mosquito net. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the bedstead-rail clamp. Fig. 5 is a cross section of the lower portion of the socket bar or rod forming a member of the bedstead clamp. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the interlocking ends of the socket bar and the gooseneck or bar supporting the mosquito net.
A indicates the clam B a socket bar or rod forming a portion 0 the clam and serving as a support for an adjustab e table, C, and for the goose-neck or curved rod D, that supports the collapsible frame E, which in turn supports the mosquito bar, or net, F. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the clamp A is formed of the lower portion of the vertical bar I), a portion of which is parallel to the bar B and whose upper portion is curved laterally and rovided with an elongated slot 6 through w ich the rod B passes, a clamp screw 6 being ap lied at the end of the slotted portion and a apted to bear against the rod B. The remaining member of the clam consists of a device 6 in the end of a slotte bar having a clampscrew 1) attached, the same being adapted to receive the lower ortions of the bars B and b. The device 3 being attached it is apparent that the rods B, b, may be slipped down over a bedstead rail, as shown in Fig. 1, and the device 6 then slipped up over the ends of the parts B, b, whereupon, the screws 6 I) being tightened, the rail is clamped tightly between the parts B, 6. Another clamp-screw b the upper portion of the bar B, but ordinarily its use is not necessary. As shown in Fig. 6, a plate or cushion of rubber or other soft elastic material may be secured to the inner side of the socket bar B, which is slightly flattened in order to prevent abrasion of the outer side of the bedstead rail. 1
The lower ortionof the bar B is preferably made so id while the upper portion is necessarily made hollow and adapted to receive the tenon, or lower end, of the curved bar, or goose-neck, D. The latter is so constructed as to extend over a bed, as shown in Fig. 1, and to its free horizontal end is attached the frame or support for the mosquito canopy F. Such frame is constructed similarly to an umbrella frame, the ribs being, however, straight and adapted to be extended horizontally so as to form a flat surface as shown. The outer ends of the ribs are perforated like the ribs of an umbrella and the top of the entire frame is covered with netting tightly stretched and to this around the entire edge another piece of netting is gathered to the fullness desired. The connection between the collapsible frame E and the goose-neck D is effected by a curved arm E having at its lowerlend a socket 6 provided with a clam -screw for securing the same to the goose-nee The arm and socket are preferably cast integral with the slidable tube e forming a part of the collapsible frame E. In order to revent the gooseneck rotating in the socket B, the latter is provided, as shown in Figs. 2 and 7, with four notches b in its upper end and the gooseneck with corresponding lugs (1 adapted to enter said notches. This construction adapts the standard B to be attached on either side of a bedstead or to the foot of the same since the goose-neck may in each case be adjusted over the bed.
In Figs. 1 and 2 there is shown the table attachment C which may be applied to and supported adjustably on the ar E, and which forms the sub ect of a divisional aplication filed by me Oct. 12, 1908, Serial may be applied ton I thus provide, by a simple economical a construction, a mosquito bar for bedsteads, cots, and cribs, which may be easily and quickly attached and detached, and adjusted higher or lower and in other ways as required by conditions; further, that the main parts maybe detached from each other and packed:
com actly for storage or transportation.
hat 1 claim is:
1. The improved attachment comprising the bedstead clamp, a vertical socket bar forming a part of the clamp, a goose-neck supported on said bar, a collapsible frame for sup orting a mosquito net proper, said frame having a slidable sleeve portion provided With a curved arm having a socket and clamp-screw for attaching it to the free end of the goose-neck, substantially as described.
2. In a bedstead attachment of the class indicated, a vertical bar adapted for attachment and support of a mosquito-bar frame, the said bar forming one side of a bedstead clamp, and the remaining portion consisting of a second shorter bar having a curved and slotted top portion, and a slotted device adapted to receive the parallel portions of the two bars, and clamp-screws applied as shown and described.
