The Schedule referred to n these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN Kennemer Paducah, in the county ofMcOracken, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brick-Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is a `full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the artto make and use the same, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, Sheet N o. 1, represents a vertical central section of my invention.
Figure 2 is a detached external view of a part pertaining to the same.
Figure 3, Sheet No. 2, is a horizontal section of the same, taken in the line x x, iig. 1.
Figure 4 is a horizontal section of the same, taken in the line y y, fig. 1.
Figure 5 is a horizontal section of the same, taken in the line s z, fig. 1.

This invention relates to a new and improved machine for pressing and moulding brick; and has for its object, first, the pressing of the clay very compaetly in its mould, so that firm, solid bricks will be obtained; and, second, the performing of the work above specified in a very expeditious manner.
'Ihe framing ofthe machine is composed of two parts, A B, the lower part, A, consisting of a base, eX, having four uprights, bx, attached to it, with -circular horizontal supports O D secured to their upper parts. l
lhe part B of the frame is a circular or polygonal box, which fitted on the top of A.
'Within the box B there is fitted a cylindrical ease,
E, of metal or wood, which is fixed or stationary, and vis encompassed by a case, F, having a toothed rim, G,
secured to the exterior of its upper part.
This case F is allowed to turn freely around the-stationary case E, and it has two inclined ribs, a a', which are inclined in opposite directions, as shown in h'g. 2, und :lso a horizontal rib, b, which extends around the case F, from the upper' end of rib a', nearly to the upper end of the other rib, c.
The case Fis rotated by toothed wheels H, on a Vertical shaft, I, the wheel H gearing into the toothed rim G, the shaft I receivingits motion by gear-wheels J J', from the lower end of a vert-ical shaft, K, which passes centrally through the whole machine, as shown clearly in 1.
On the upper part-of the shaft K, which is within the case E, there are horizontal arms L, and these arms, in connection with the case E, constitute the.

The plun gers M are fitted and work in vertical grooves e, made in the inner side of the case B, (see Iig. 3,) and screws f pass through oblong vertical slots eX, in the case B, and through the plungers M, the inner ends of these screws being acted upon by the ribs a c' b.
The support G contains the brick-moulds h., in which horizontal plungers N work. (See more particularly These moulds are open both at top and bottom, and the plungers areoperated by a cam, O, on the shaft K. These plungers are connected, in pairs, by plates P, which have oblong slots 'i made through them, for the shaft K to pass through, the oblong slots admitting of a proper length of movement of the pluugers.
The two plungers N of cach pair are inline with each other at opposite sides of shaft K, so that'when one plunger of a pair is being forced into its mould the other one is being Withdrawn from its mould. This will be fully understood by referring to fig. 4.
The tops ofthe moulds are closed, when necessary, by means of slides Q, connected in pairs by plates R, and operated by a cam, S, on shaft K.
This arrangement is precisely like that of the plung- 'ers N, as will be seen by referring to fig. 3.
The slides Q, when drawn inward underneath a circular plate, T, which covers the plates It, that connect the slides.
The bottoms of the vmoulds are closed, when necessary, by slides U, (see fig.'5,) said slides being forced.

The clay, as the slides Q are drawn ba'ck, passes down into the moulds' h, a slide, U, being closed, or underneath each mould, as the clay is forced into it.
As each mould is filled, a slide,.Q, passesover it, so
that the clay will be completely enclosed all around, and the plunger N of the closed mould then is operated, and the clay therein compressed.
The slides Q U are then drawn back with the plungers N, and a. plunger, M, is forced down todischarge the compressed clay from the mould.
The slides `and plungers all operate successively, one after the other, tbe cams on shaft K, and the ribs a y a' b onv case F, being' so placed or arranged as to eiect that end. y
The Vbricks or compressed 4clay drop from the moulds upon the table X, and are discharged therefrom by coming in contact with the bar BX.'
Having thus described my invention,
I claim` as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The series ofplungers N, Working radially to press .the bricks between two series of radial slidcsAg U, which open and close the tops and bottoms of the moulds, in combination with the Vertical plunger-s M,
for discharging the bricks upon the table X, all constructed and arranged substantially as described.
2. The series of moulds Il', with' the reciprocatingI plungers N and slides Q U the rotating table X,
and guide-bars B X, all constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purposes herein set forth.
