Letters Patent No 90,513, dated May 25, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN RUNNING GEAR OF STREET-CARS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZEBINA EASTMAN, of Chi; cago, in the county of Cook, in the) State of Illinois, at present residing abroad as the United States Gonsul at Bristol, England, have invented a new and useful improvement in the construction of the gearing or running'parts of the cars or carriages for horserailways, steam-railways, or common roads, which invention was patented in the United States Patent Otfice, dated the 9th day of October, 1866, No. 58,621; and' whereas, I have since discovered new and important improvements in the construction of the same, and to be used in conjunction with the said patent, I hereby request further protection on the same; and for that purpose, I do hereby declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of and the main reach in the centres of each.

When the centre-bolt is down it has passed through all the reaches, and holds them fast, so that the axles will not radiate or oscillate, but are held firmly square across. the carriage, parallel with each other, and consequently, when so held by the bolt, the car will move only in a straight or direct line.
When at a curve, the driver will draw the bolt up, and the rods will be liberated to act upon the axles, and they will then freely radiate to the curve, or circle in which the car is moving.

What I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I In combination with the reach a, and crossed diagonal reaches 11 b, the centre-bolt a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
