SAFETX-LOGK FOR PINS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Patented Nov. '17, 1908.
Application filed July 31, 1907. Serial No. 386,453.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, VVILL1AM A. OLSEN, a citizen of the United States, -residing at New- York, in the county" of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Locks for Pins, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to pins or more par ticularly to safety devices for securing pins when once locatedand are adapted to be s'ecured to the point of the pin in such a man ner after the pin has been passed through the article it .is to secure,- that its accidental retraction is hardly possible as will be more fully described in. the following specifica 1 tion, set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings where it'will be seen that the same reference characters are used to distinguish the same parts"- in the several figures. Y Figure l is a perspective .view of a hat pin'wit-h the improved securing device onits Flg. 2 1s anenlar ed side vlew of same. Fig, 3 is a sectiona view of thede- V yice on thepoint ofthe in.
The device] is particn arly adaptable for of such a scarf 1n, hat pin or such articles of value whic are. free v quently in danger of slipping out of the ar ticle in which they are located and being lost and consists ofar bead or head-5 which,
may correspond in size and shape with the head 6 of the pin 7. This head 5-has a 11101-- inner 'endof the socket 9 .low shank 8 the interior of about the same diameter as the end of the pin and the may correspond formed the pin to slide past-.. the headon the-pin requires some force but 0 'ficiently to produce a resilient side,
with the point-of the pm as shown.- One 1 sideIO of the shank s is reduced and fiat eflect. An indentation or depression 11 is in this portion IQ of the shank' and i pro ects far enough inward to decrease the diameter or widthof the socket atthat point to a degree lessthan the diameter of the pin so that it forms an obstruction to the'en trance of the pin yet the resilient action of the flattened side lO allows it to yield-and This action of placing when located the resiliency of the side10 and the friction of the indentation serve to,
retain'it firmly and against the, possibility ofdisplacement and loss. '1, his obvious that'other modified details within, the scope of the claim may "be adopted without departing from the essential features above described.
What I. claim, as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
The combination with a pin of a. safety device comprising a tubular member having one side externally flattened andireduced su said Side being provided with a transverse indentation formingltm interior projection to frictionally engage the pinwhen the-point of the latter is inserted into the tubular member'.-
In testimony whereof, I afiix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
