To all whom it may concern:

Be it known, that I, CONRAD EHLERS, asubject of the German Emperor, and resident of Sulingen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Belating to Clothes-Pegs, of which the following is a specification.

The heretofore known clothes-pegs have the disadvantage that the suspended clothes are not suspended according to the shape of the body. These pegs mostly consist of a bent piece of wood, wire or the like and of course the suspended clothes were crumpled and received a bad shape.

The object of my present invention relates to a clothes-peg which in opposition to the above mentioned clothes-pegs has the advantage that the clothes are suspended according to their form. Besides my improved peg is so adjustable as to fit clothes of different size. The peg can be folded to gether in order to occupy little space when carried.

In the accompanying drawing in which I have illustrated my invention like letters of reference refer to like parts of the different views.

In said drawings :Figure 1 shows a front view of the improved clothes-peg. Fig. 2 shows a cross-section of Fig. 1.

In order to attain a flat suspending of the clothes the clothes-peg consists of a stiff material e. g. tin-plate, card-board or the like. It is composed of the neck-collar a, the shoulder-pieces I), the breast-part c and the back piece (Z. The shoulder pieces I) are pivotally connected to the neck collar a and they can be prolonged by means of slides f. The collar a provides a bow 9 having several holes h into which the hook i is screwed which hook serves for the hanging up of the clothes- The breast-piece c and also the back-piece (Z are pivotally connected at is to the collar a. A cross bar Z connects these two pieces 0 and cl. This cross bar preferably consists of two parts, as shown in Fig. 2, which are held together by a thumb nut m. The upper part of said cross bar provides a slot in which the bolt of the lower part moves. The shoulder-pieces b are pivotally connected also with the breast-piece, the latter piece providing slots a which are engaged by bolts attached to the shoulder pieces. At an adjustment of the peg said bolts serve as guides. The thumb-nuts 0 serve to fix the shoulder-pieces in any suitable height. Pivotally connected to the one shoulder-piece is a how 7) bent in the well known manner, while a hook Q is provided on the other shoulder-piece. This arrangement serves to suspend the trousers in such a manner that the buttons are suspended on the bows 7) while the hook 9 serves to hang up the trousers. The breast-piece 0 can also consist of three parts as shown in Fig. 1, which parts are connected by hinges. This arrangement serves for an eventual folding together of the peg and other parts of the same may show similar provisions. If the peg is to be folded together the nuts m are released, the nuts 0 first removed and after the breast-and back-pieces are pressed together again screwed upon their bolts, whereby a partly closed conically shaped cylinder is produced. If the single parts of the hanger are subdivided and connected in a suitable manner the size of the folded peg can be still diminished.

By means of this improved clothes-peg any sort of cloth of any size may be flatly suspended.

In order to attain at the adjustment of the breastor back-piece a yielding of the shoulder-pieces the connecting parts 1" may be connected to the shoulder-pieces by means of hinges along the dotted line 8. On the other hand the shoulder-pieces may be manufactured from flexible material 6. 9. leather or the like.

WVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by a United States Letters Patent, is

In a clothes peg the combination of a collar-piece (a), shoulder-pieces (1)), breastpieces (0), a back-piece ((Z) all of said pieces made of stiff material, screw bolts fixed to the shoulder-pieces, which are turnable and movable in a well known manner, slots in the breastand back-pieces engaging said bolts and thumb-nuts (0) arresting said bolts all adapted to attain different breastbackand shoulder measurements substantially as described.
