Description

Patented Nov. 10, 1908 Pion,
EMANUEL L. BUXBAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BUTTON-MATCHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 14, 1908.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
Serial No. 421,233.
T o all whom it may camera:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL L. BUX- BAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in Button-Matchers, of which lthe following is a full, clear, and concise description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to means Whereby buttons may be readily superposed upon cloth to determine the suitability of the buttons to the cloth.
The invention resides in a sheet of suitable material provided with a fairly large opening having means for mounting a button within or above the opening, there being sufiicient clearance about the button so that cloth may be revealed through the opening in order that said cloth may be compared with the button to determine the suitability of the button to the cloth. In the commercial embodiment Vof my invention, there is a plurality of such openings, there being a button disposed in each and each serving to permit cloth to be seen through the space surrounding the button. It is the purpose to have a plurality of buttons of different styles, so that the button most suited to the cloth may readily be selected.
I will explain my invention more fully by reference to the accompanying drawing, showing'the preferred embodiment thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a button matcher with several buttons shown in place, one button being absent to show more fully the nature of the button support, the supports for the different buttons being similar.
ig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear view of a portion of the structure shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Like parts are indicated by similar characters of reference throughout the different figures.
A sheet a of some suitable material, preferably cardboard, has provided therein the plurality of openings b of a size suflicient to reveal therethroughv enough cloth to enable the comparison of buttons f therewith. A button support c eXtends over each opening b, these supports c desirably extending across each opening l) and being anchored to opposite marginal portions of each opening by any suitable means which need not be specifically set forth. Each support c is desirably provided with an enlargement d at its middle ortion, which enlargement is provided with a number of needle holes e, whereby the buttons may be sewed in place. However, I do not wish to be limited to the prevcise means whereby the buttons are held in position, nor to other details of construction that are indicated in the dra'wing, as changes may be made in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 2- 1. A button matcher including a sheet of suitable material having an opening therethrough, and a button support positioned to hold a button over or within said opening, said opening being of sufficient size to afford space about the button through which cloth placed behind the button may be revealed, in order that the button may be compared with the cloth; the button support having a portion provided with needle holes, Whereby the button may be sewed upon the button suport.
p 2. A button matcher including a Sheet of suitable material having an opening therethrough, and a button support positioned to hold a button over or within said opening, said opening being of sufficient size to afford space about the button through which cloth placed behind the button may be revealed, in order that the button may be compared with the cloth.
In testimony whereof, l sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
EMANUEL L. BUXBAUM.
