OIL-CLOTH RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Application filed April 1, 1908. Serial No. 424,639.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. Srstnn, a citizen of the United States residing at Mineola, in the county Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cloth Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in racks for exhibiting, measuring and cutting oil cloth, paper or other material adapted to be wound upon a central rod; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a rack constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a central transverse sectional view. Fig. 3 is a top plan view. Fig. i is a horizontal sectional view upon the line 4- -4. of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a pers wctive view of the roll holding device.
This invention is primarily constructed of a pair of rectangular members 1 and 2, provided with a suitable has-c The members 1 and 2 are adapted to extend vertically of the base 3 and are each pr vided-with a series of alining inclined slots upon their front faces. Those slo ts 4, comprise the holders by which the roll of the oil cloth or other material to be displayed is positioned upon the rack. The brackets 5, provided by the slots 4 have their lips connected with the transverse securing strips 6, and these strips 6 are provided with the arcuatc, centrally disposed supports 7, adapted to serve as a central support for the rolls. The upper ends of the members 1 and 2 are provided with vertical slots 8, and the arms at the front of the members provided by the slots 8 are oonnected by a transverse member 9 provided with a central longitudinally extending channel 1.0. The upper extremities of the front arms to which the member 9 is secured are provided with suitable alining openings adapted for the reception of the trunnions of a roller 11. The members .1 and 2 are providcd with a longitudinally curved member 12, positioned beneath the slot 8, and the rear arm 13 provided by the slot 8 has a trans verse member 14, positioned directly opposite the roller 11. The upper extremity of the arm 13 upon the member 1 is provided with a suitab e perforation adapted for the rece tion of a securing element by which a roll olding member 15 is pivotally connectof Wood and State of k ed with the arm. This member 15 comprises a handle having a wedge shaped offset projectin downwardly and adapted to compress the r0 1 of cloth deposited in the vertical cut away portions 8 of the members against the member 2 to prevent further unrolling of the cloth.
From the above description, taken incoi nection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that rolls of oil cloth or the like of different designs may be deposited in the inclined slots 4 of the rack, and that when the ortion of any one of the rolls within the inc ined slots is to be cut the roll is lifted from the inclined slot to the vertical slots 1,. The members 9, 12 and 14 providing effective supports to prevent the roll from sagging downwardly or moving forwardly or rearwardly. The member 1 is provided with a measuring rod 15, and the roll of oil cloth within the vertical cut away portions 8 has its free edge brought over the roller 11 and is measured by the rod 15' and when the required amount of material is measured off the holding element 15 is swung u on its pivot so that the wedge shaped blar 0 compresses the roll of oil cloth to prevent further unwinding of the roll, and a knife is drawn across the face of the oil cloth 0 iposito the slot- 10 of the transverse bar 9, tons cutting the cloth accurately and neatly. The base members 3 may be provided with a transverse scouring bar Y16 and this bar 16 may be provided with inclined faces 17 secured to the side members 1 and 2, thus providing a steady and rigid rack for oil cloths or the like.
ll avin Y thus fully described the invention what is c aimed as new is:
1. In a frame or rack for dis laying oil cloths or similar material, the combination of a pair of side members each provided with a series of inclined alining slots and alining vertical slots at their upper ends, a roller between the front arms providcd by the vertical slots, a member having a central longitudinal groove connected with the arms of the vertical slots, a grooved member below the vertical slots, a member connecting the rear arms provided by the vertical slots, and a roll holdin device having a wedge shaped blade pivotaly secured to one of the rear arms.
2. In a frame or rack for displaying oil cloths or similar materials, the combination of a pair of members each provided with a series of inclined alining slots upon their F arms front edges, transverse connecting bars secured to the lips of the brackets provided by the slots, central roll supporting elements upon the bars, the side members being provided with alining vertical slots at their upper ends, the front arm provided by the slot having a transverse member provlded with a longitudinal channel, a roller for the arms, a longitudinally curved member below the slots, a transverse member connecting the provided at the rear of the slots, a roll holding member comprising an arm having a wedge shaped offset pivoted to the rear arms, and a vertical measuring rod secured 15 upon one of the side members.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
