THE NORRIS PETERS 00., WASHINUTON, n. c.
UNTT STAT JOHN JONES, or SALEM, OREGON.
INVALIDS CABINET-COMMODE.
Application filed. October 18, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN J ONES, citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Invalids Cabinet Commodes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a cabinet and commode, especially designed for invalids use.
It consists in a combination of parts and in details of construction, which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section taken through YY of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section through X-X of Fig. 1, with commode inclosed. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the commode drawn out.
It is the object of my invention to provide a chamber convenience which is particularly useful for invalids.
As shown in the drawings, A is a cabinet which may be provided with drawers or receptacles B in the upper portion, and is made in any desired ornamental form.
The lower portion comprises a suflicient space to receive a commode and has rails 2 upon each side. The rails are so located that when the commode is in place, it will be supported upon the rails with its caster or bearing wheels 3 above the floor level. The front ends of the rails are beveled or inclined, and
rollers 4 carried on the rear of the bottom of the commode, will travel upon the rails so as to lift the rollers 3 from the floor, as before stated, and when the commode is withdrawn, the rollers 4 move down the inclines of the rails, so that the rollers 3 may rest upon the floor. When the commode is in place within the cabinet, inclines 5 upon the front of the bottom, coincide with and rest upon the inclined portions of the rails 2 and form a solid sup ort.
T he commode itself is shown at 6 and is in the form of a box with sides, back, bottom and a front with a door opening. The top or seat portion 7 may be hinged or removable, and the receptacle 8 has a rim 9 projecting so as to slide upon rails 10 fixed to the lower side of the seat, and it may be re- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Serial No. 398,053.
i moved or replaced through the front door opening.
A cover 11 is hinged at the rear and may be opened to disclose the seat or closed over it. 12 are side arms having the front lower ends pivoted to the sides of the part 6, as shown at 137 The upper rear ends are pivotally connected at 14.- with links 15, the upper ends of which are connected with the cover 11 so that when the cover is closed, the two form an elbow or hinge oint and the arms are folded down against the sides. When the cover is opened, the arms are simultaneously raised into position, and their rear ends have pins or lugs 16 which interlock with notches 17 on the links. At the same time projecting pins or lugs 18 engage with notches or sockets 19 on the sides of 6 and thus hold the arms firmly in place so as to provide an often needed support.
The rear of the commode box has stops 20 which engage the front of the rail 21 of the cabinet to limit the forward movement of the box, but if it is desired to entirely remove the box from the cabinet, the stops may be disengaged by slightly tilting the box to the 3 rear to allow the stops to pass the rail.
1 Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a cabinet, a commode box movable into and out of the cabinet, a seat and a hinged cover therefor, substantially bell-crank arms at the sides of the box having their front lower ends pivoted to the sides of said box, and links pivotally connected with the upper rear ends of the arms, said links having their upper ends connected with the cover, lugs on the rear ends of the arms adapted to interlock with notches on the links, and other lugs on the arms adapted to engage notches or sockets on the sides of the box whereby the arms are firmly held in place in an elevatedposition when the cover is open.
2. In a device of the character described, a cabinet having inclined surfaced rails, a commode box with bearing wheels or casters, guide wheels movable upon the rails of the cabinet to raise or lower the boX in unison my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- I Withits introlduotion or removiil, stops to limit nesses.
