' NECK YOKE HOLDER.
APPLICATION IILED'MAY 29, 1908.

1 9i I'M moon I 351d W UNITED STATES JOSEPH PAULY, OF HARLEM, MONTANA.
NECK-YOKE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 27, 1 908.
Application filed May 29, 1908. Serial No. 435,675.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn PAULY, rancher, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harlem, in the county of Chouteau and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yoke Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for re' taining a neck yoke securely upon the pole of a wagon, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character comprising two members, one of which is secured upon the pole while the other member is adapted to be slid upon the end of the pole and to engage the neck yoke and be detachably connected to the member secured upon the pole, thus securely retaining the neck yoke between the members.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for retaining neck yokes upon wagon poles comprising a removable mem ber and a member secured upon the wagon pole, the member upon the pole being constructed and arranged upon the pole in such manner as to remove strain from its point of connection with the pole.
To these and other ends the invention resides in the novel construction of retainers for neck yokes hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a wagon pole showing a neck yoke retained thereon by my improved device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates a wagon or buggy pole of the ordinary construction, 2 a neck yoke secured upon the pole by the usual center leather 3.
The numeral 4 designates the removable member of my improved retainer comprising an enlarged body portion 5 having a central opening 6, adapted for the reception of the pole 1, and the reduced portion 7 having its end provided with the buckle 8.
The opposite member 9 comprises a strap portion 10 having a series of perforations 11 by which it is secured to the removable member by the buckle 8. The strap 10 is centrally slit longitudinally a suitable distance from the perforations 11, to provide the members 11 and 12. The members 11 and 12 are adapted to be laced around the pole 1, and to have their ends secured to the pole by the bolt or rivet 14. By providing the member 9 with the divided members 11 and 12 and by arranging the members upon the shaft in the laced manner described, it will be observed that strain is relieved from the extremities of the members where they are con nected with the wagon pole.
From the construction above described, it will be noted that when the removable member of my yoke retaining device is positioned upon the pole of the wagon and the strap or reduced portion 7 brought over the yoke and secured upon the member 9 by the buckle 8, the neck yoke is held securely upon the pole in a canted or inclined position and the opening provided in the center leather engages the top and bottom of the pole at an inclination and is immovably wedged upon the pole.
From the above description, it will be seen that I have provided an extremely simple and efficient device for effectively retaining a neck yoke upon a wagon pole, one which is easily and quickly positioned upon the neck yoke, and which provides a member secured upon the pole by a bolt or rivet, so constructed and arranged as to remove strain from its point of connection with the pole.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A device for retaining neck yokes upon wagon poles comprising a member having one of its ends slit and the slit portions of the member wound around the pole and secured to the pole at their ends, and a member hav ing a body portion provided with an opening adapted to engage the pole and a reduced portion having a buckle and adapted to engage the upper portion of the neck yoke center and to be secured to the member upon the .pole.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH PAULY.
