NATHANIEL WILLIS SMEAD, OF SHELDON, IOWA.
GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 27, 1908.
Application filed July 30, 1906. Serial No. 328,348.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL WILLIS SMEAD, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of' Sheldon, in the county of OBrien and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to collapsible game apparatus especially adapted for use as a bowling alley.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved collapsible portable game board or tenpin alley, which can be erected for use very easily and rapidly, and can be separated and stored in compact form.
Another object of the invention is to furnish an interesting game, the playing of which provides healthful exercise and recreation, and is designed to-increase the strength and precision of both the body and the mind.
In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 is a top plan view of this improved game board, showing a portion of the sectional bowling alley attached; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the alley; Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated, a board A is shown having a target portion, the boundary of which is indicated by the letters a, b, c and d. The target may be used either for quoits or for tenpins, or for any other game for which it may be adapted. When tenpins are used, they are placed on the spaces marked 11, 22, 3-3, and 44. The spaces 10, 20, 30, and 40, between the circles, are designed to indicate the amount to be counted when the quoits fall within these spaces.
A bowling alley section E is adapted to be connected with the target-carrying section by means of hooks as 72, carried by one member, which engage eyes, as n, carried by the other member. This alley section E has a bed 6, provided at each side with longitudinally extending detachable gutters f, secured and supporting the Y-shaped standards i, i
which carry the trough k at their u per ends, said ends being bifurcated with the arms 9' and j thereof extended on opposite sides of the trough 7r, which latter is made in sections to correspond with the sections of the gutter. In the use of this collapsible board, when desired for use the sections A and E are placed end to end and the hooks n engage with the eyes n; the gutters f are then secured to the bed a by screw-bolts g and the standards i are placed in the sockets of the guard m; the trough k is then placed between the bifurcated ends of the standards and the apparatus is ready for use.
I claim as my invention:
1. A collapsible gameapparatus, comprising a target section and an alley section detachably connected, L-shaped gutters detachably connected with said alley section, and a ball trough removably supported on one of said gutters.
2. A collapsible game apparatus, comprisin a target section, an alley section detachabIy connected therewith, L-shaped gutters detachably connected with said alley section and having sockets therein, standards removably secured in said sockets, and a trough supported by said standards.
In testimony whereof, I, NATHANIEL VVIL- LIs SMEAD have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NATHANIEL WILLIS SMEAD.
