SEED CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED IAR.. 5, 190B.

SEED'ACABINET.
ySpecification of Letters Patent. Application med March 5, 1908. Serial No. 419,352.
Patented Oct. 20, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. BATEMAN, a citizenof the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seed-Cabinets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention', such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use 'the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in self measuring seed cabinets and has for its principal object the production of a comparatively simple and desirable device of this kind, so constructed that any'desirable quantity of seed may be delivered from the hopper or seed containing receptacle to a chute from which' it may be collected.`
With this and other objects in view, the
invention resides in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement ticularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view of a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the slide in seed discharging position; Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the plane indicated by the dotted line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the discharging block removed.
In the embodiment illustrated a cabinet comprising upright side pieces 1 and a back piece 2 which extends preferably from the upperend of the side walls or pieces to a point some little distance from the lower ends of the saine, is shown.- The front upper side edge of the side pieces are of inwardly inclined form and are connected by a correspondingly inclined front wall or piece 3.
A horizontal partition 4 is arranged between the side members of the cabinet at a oint directly beneath the lower end of the ront piece, said partition extending from the back piece of the cabinet to a point some 'little distance from the front piece thereof, vproviding a compartment or seed hopper 5 at the upper end of the cabinet and a suitable scraper 6 ispositioned between the side mem- ;beijs at the front of the cabinet, and projects downwardly until flush with the partition 4,
ening 7 being left bea space or discharge o lthe partition and the tween the front end fo i from the hop er 5.
' innerl side wall of the scraper block. A second partition 8 is arranged between the side pieces of the cabinet below the seed receptacle or hopper, said partition being formed with outwardly extending iianges 9 designed to extend or fit into corresponding grooves 10, formed in the inner faces or sides of the side pieces.l This last mentioned partition may be adjusted longitudinally as may be required but is preferably arranged with its front side edge .liush with the rear face or lside of the scraper block, the purpose of which will be disclosed. A seed discharging block is mounted to slide directly beneath the first mentioned partition 4 and the scraper block 6. As shown in the drawings, said block is made in two longitudinally spaced sections 12 rigidly connected by side menibers 13, the upper edges of which are bent outwardly to form out turned side flanges 14 designed to slide or fit in corresponding grooves 15 formed in the inner side faces of the side pieces directly beneath the first mentioned partition.
An adjustable block 16 is arranged between the sections of the seed discharging members and may be adjusted by any suitable means within the scope of the invention. One method ofy adjusting this block would be by providing an adjusting screw 17, said screw extending longitudinally throu h the rear section of the discharging mem er or block 11 and the back (piece of the cabinet, the front end of the a justing screw being swiveled to the adjusting block, and the rear or oppositeendof said screw being formed with a shouldered or handle portion to facilitate in the adjustment of the same; the purpose of roviding an adjustable block is to permit t e space between the sections of the discharging members to be increased or less ened,l to deliver different quantities of seed The front section of the discharging b ook may-also be provided with an adjustable slide 18 in the form of a flat piece of metal bent downwardly at its rear end, as at 19 against the adjacent end of said section, the body 20 of the slide being slotted longitudinally, as at 21, to receive a retainto-retain the slide at any de- An. inclined chute. 23 is tion and serves sired adjustment.
adjustably mounted beneath the second' mentioned partition, the side pieces 24 of the chute being formed with outwardly extend ing flanges 25 designed to slide or-iit in the corresponding grooves 26 formed in the inner side faces of the side pieces of the cabinet'. A plate of glass 27 is arranged in the front piece 3 of the cabinet, the purpose of which will be evident.
While, I have shown only one seed discharging member and other necessary coperative elements, it is evident that in the application of the inventipn, the cabinet may be constructed with as many seed receptacles or hoppers and corresponding members or discharging blocks as \may be desired, in which case one discharging block could be arranged to discharge a certain quantity of seed, another discharging member a greater or less quantity and so on for all of the (lischarging members may be resorted to and different kinds of seeds arranged in the respective receptacles or hoppers.
From the fore oing description7 taken in connection with t e accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation. g
Various changes in the iorm, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isz- 1. A seed receptacle of the character specified comprising an. upright open frame, a floor or partition arranged between the side ieces o the frame and extending from the back piece thereof to within a suitable distance of the front piece, a scraper block positioned between the side piecesof the frame in front of said licor.` or partition leaving a space or discharge opening betweenV the front end of said floor or partition and the scraper block, and a discharging member having a discharge opening to register with said 'lirst mentioned opening mounted to slide under the lower floor or partition and scraper block.
2. A seed receptacle of the character speciin front of said floorior partition leaving a space or discharge opening between the front end of said floor or partition and the scraper block, and a discharging member having a discharge opening to normally register With said rst mentioned opening mounted to slide under the Hoor or partition and scraper block, a floor arranged under' the discharge opening of the discharginvr member and an inclined chute arranged beneath said last mentioned loor'or partition.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto s et my hand in presence of two subscribing W1tnesses.
THOMAS eA. BATEMAN.
