Description
WALDO E. CALLANE, OF FLORA, INDIANA.
CROSS-ARM SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oct. c, 190s.
Application filed. November 19, 1906. Serial No. 344,101.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALno E. OALLANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flora, in the county of Carroll and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Cross-Arm Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for securwire or like supporting cross arms to po os, and the principal object is to provide a novel and exceedingly simple device, by
means of which the cross arm can be securely `face view of the supporting device.
fastened in place without the necessity of cutting the pole, said device being readily adjustable to poles of different diameters.
An embodiment of the invention that is at present considered the preferable one is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where- 1n:-
Figure 1 is a sectional view through a pole, showing a cross arm in top plan view secured to said pole by the improved supporting means. Fig. 2 is asectional view through the pole and supporting means. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the structure. Fig. 4 is a Fig. 5 is an edge view of the same.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring to said drawings, the pole and associated cross arm therein shown are respectively designated 6 and 7. The cross arm is spaced from the pole, and interposed between the two is a bracket formed from a single piece of' metal, and comprising an' intermediate curved strap 8, formin a seat that receives the pole. Extending rom the ends of the strap and integral therewithare divergent arms 9 having at their free ends spaced outstanding and integral ears '10. The arms 9 are of suiiicient length so that when the ears l0 are against the adjacent side of the cross arm 7 as shown, the curved strap 8 will be spaced therefrom. Fastening bolts 11 `pass throughthe ears 10 and the cross arm, and another bolt 12 passes through the pole, the strap 8 and the cross arm bletween the bolts 1l.
tutes the sole connection between the arms V9. Therefore said strap can be made to conform to the curve of the pole, as the parts will give sufficiently for that urpose.
From the foregoing, it is t ought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will be a parent to those skilled in the art, without fhrther description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cross arm sup ort formed from a single piece of materla, and comprising a curved pole-engaging strap, arms integral with and extending rearwardly from the ends of the strap, and outstanding spaced ears projecting from and integral with the rear `ends of the arms, said ears being arranged for securement to a cross arm.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a pole, of a cross arm associatedtherewith, a support formed from a single piece of material, and comprising a curved strap interposed between the pole and cross arm and engaging the former, arms integral with and extending rearwardly from the ends of the strap, outstanding spaced ears projecting from and integral with the rear ends of the arms, said ears resting flat against the cross arm and maintaining the strap in spaced relation thereto between them, fasteners passing through the ears into the cross arm, and a fastener passing through the cross arm and through the strap into the pole. Y
3. A cross arm sup ort formed from a single piece of materia, and comprising a curved pole engaging strap, and integral inclined arms extending rearwardly from the ends of the strap, the length of the arms being such as to space the cross arm from the pole and the strap.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as -my own, I have hereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WALDO E. CALLANE.
