Be it known that I, FRED SANTosKI,citizen of the United States, residing at Stevens Point, in the countylof Portage and State of,

Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inllluminated- Ovens for Stoves and I do declare'thefollowingto be a full, clear, andexact description of'thef invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto whichitappertains tomake illuminated ovens and doorsfor the same.

The ob ect of the nvent on is to provide an oven having means whereby the same 1s illuminated from the rear andprovided with light is admitted from fthe front, and by a door having transparent panels'wher'e'by means of which the contents of the oven may be observed. it a a r j v A further objectis'to provide anfautm matioally-operated shield or protecting plate adapted to protect the glass panels in the door' when the latter'is'in an openposition.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consistsof certain novel features of "construction, combination and arrangement ofparts as will be described 'and'pan; ticularly pointed out in the appended claims. -By means of an operating rod arranged as here shown and described, the reflector may be adjusted to the proper angle from the front side of the stove. v

The oven is provided with a door, 7, which is hinged at its lower edge and adapted to open outwardly and downwardly as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 8 of the drawing. The door? consists of a skeleton frame arranged to-forni panel openings 9. When the door is closed or swung upwardly, the rods 14: will draw the protecting plate downwardly from across the transparent panels to a position in rear of the metal panels, 10, thereby uncovering the transparent panels so that the contents of the oven may be readily observed therethrough. WVhen the protect ing plate 13 is in an operative position over the transparent panels, 9, the latter are protected from being scratched by the pans or cooking utensils when drawn out of the oven, and will be protected from being broken by objects falling thereon, or by water, which, it dropped on the panels when in a heated condition, would be apt to crack the same.

On the outer side of the door adjacent to the upper ends of the slots, 16, are formed stop lugs, 17, against which the upper ends of the operating rods, let, bear when the door is lowered to an open position, said operating rods and lugs thus forming a support for the door when in an open position. The door is provided with a suitable operating handle, 19, and latch, 20, by means of which the same is opened and closed and held in a closed position.

By means of the transparent panel in the rear and the observation panels in the door, the contents of the oven may be watched without the necessity of opening the door during the cooking operation.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:

1 In an oven, a door having arranged therein transparent panels, a cover to protect said panels when the door is in an opened position, and means to operate said cover whereby when the door is in closed position, said panels will be uncovered, substantially as described.

2. In an oven, a door having arranged therein transparent panels, and means operated by the opening and closing of the door to cover and uncover said panels, thereby preventing the same from being broken when the door is in an open position, substantially as described.

3. In an oven, a door having arranged therein transparent panels, a protecting plate to cover said panels, and combined door-supporting and plate-operating rods adapted to support the door in its open position and to move said plate over the panels when the door is opened, substantially as described.

4. An oven having arranged in its rear side a transparent panel, a door having therein transparent panels, a protecting plate to cover the panels in said door, and combined door-supporting and plate-operating devices adapted to move said plate over the panels when the door is opened and to support the door in an open position, substantially as described.

5. An oven having in its rear side a transparent panel, a reflector to throw the light into the oven through said panel, a door having transparent panels, a protecting plate to cover the panels in said door, and combined door-supporting and plate-operating rods adapted to support the door in an open position and to move said plate across the transparent panels when the door is opened, substantially as described.

6. An oven having therein a transparent panel, an adjustable reflector to throw the light through said panel and into the oven, means to adjust said reflector to various angles, a door having transparent panels, door-supporting rods, and means operated by said rods to cover and protect said panels in the door when the latter is in an opened, position, substantially as described.

7. An oven having arranged in its rear side a transparent panel, an adjustable reflector to throw the light into the oven through said panel, an operating rod connected to said reflector and extending to the front side of the stove, a door having therein transparent panels, a protecting plate adapted to he moved over said panels when the door is in an opened position, and combined door-supporting and plate-operating rods hingedly connected to the sides, whereby the protecting plate is moved across the transparent panels when the door is opened, substantially as described.

8. In an oven, a door consisting of a skeleton frame arranged to form panel openings, said frame having formed therein transversely disposed slots, metallic panels arranged in the lower panel openings of the door, transparent panels arranged in the upper panel openings thereof, a protecting plate arranged on the inner side of the door, combined door-supporting and plateoperating rods hingedly connected at their lower ends and provided at their upper ends with reduced extensions adapted to enter the slots in the door frame, and to engage said protecting plate whereby when the door is swung to an open position, said plate will.
