Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Do it known that I, I).\vn) Am-zxaxnnn STEWART, subject of Great Britain, residing at 42 Forth street, Roslyn, Dunedin, New Zealand, have invented new and useful Improvements .in Cups and Saucers, of which the following is a specification.

The objects of this invention are to provide means for securing or locking cups to saucers so that they may be readily taken apart or secured together when desired, and so that. nevertheless the saucers may be packed to occupy a small 5 nice and when desired the cup may be placer in the saucer in a stable position without being secured thereto.

The invention consists of the features and combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth or illustrated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

The objects of the invention are effected by making the cup (1) with the circular flange (2 at the bottom thereof dee )er than usual an with outwardly beveled lugs (3) )rojecting therefrom at intervals. The buttons are preferably molded on the saucer so as to be made as small as possible, the upper surfaces are rounded for ready cleaning and the buttons are made in sizes to suit the particular make of cup and saucer dealt with. The cup is then slightly turned to cause the beveled lugs (3) to take under the beveled edges of the buttons which hold it until the cupiis removed by a similar reverse action.

aving now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination a saucer, a series of buttons integral therewith surroululing the inside bottom thereof, a cup, a flange on the base of the cup and means whereby the said flange engages said buttons so as to disengugeabl fasten the cup to the saucer substantially as described.

2. In combination a saucer, a series of buttons having beveled inner faces integral with and surrounding the inside bottom of the saucer, a cup and beveled lugs round the base of the ca coiiperatin with said buttons whereby tie cup may disengageably fastened to the saucer substantially as described.

3. In combination a saucer, a series of buttons integral therewith surrounding the inside bottom thereof a cap, a flange on the base of the cup and lneans whereby the said flange engages said buttons so as to discugageably fasten the cup to the saucer, the cup having a hollowed muler surface whereby it may be placed on the saucer without being fastened thereto substantially as described.

4. In munbiaation a saucer, a series of buttons integral therewith surrounding the inside bottom thereof a cup, a flange on the base of the cup and means whereby the said flange engages said buttons so as to disengageably fasten the on to the saucer, the suueer havin a circu iuflange of large diameter on 1ts under surface whereby a number of saucers may be superimposed to nceupy small space in packing substantially as described.
