Be it known that I, SAMUEL D. SOLOMON, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Megaphone- Holders for Phonograph-Oabinets, of which the following taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and

exact description.

This invention relates to certain improvements in megaphone holders for honograph cabinets of the class set forth in tile patent to Ziegenhorn, Number 819,966, issued May 8, 1906, in which the horn supporting member is foldable upon a sliding shelf and adapted to be concealed therewith within the cabinet.

The object of my present invention is to simplify the means for retaining the horn holder in its operative position and to permit it to be readily released and folded downwardly upon the sliding shelf when it is de sired to conceal the same within the cabinet.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a phonograph record cabinet equipped with my improved horn holder, the phonograph horn being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation partly in section of my improved horn holder and sliding support and adjacent portion of the cabinet in which the sliding support is mounted. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View through the upper portion of the cabinet in which the sliding frame is mounted showing the horn holder folded to its inoperative position and as concealed within the cabinet.

In order to demonstrate the practicability of my invention, I have shown a phonograph record cabinet 1 as provided with a substantially flat top 2- for receiving and supporting a phonograph as 3-, shown by dotted lines, and beneath which is mounted a sliding support 4 carrying a foldable horn holder 5 for supporting the large end of a horn or megaphone 6 also shown by dotted lines as having its smaller end attached to the phonograph.

vided with a front piece -9- having suitable knobs or other hand piece 10 b T which the draw may be manipulated. This draw preferably consists of an open frame having opposite parallel side pieces spaced apart a sufiicient distance to receive within them the horn holder 5 when the latter is folded downwardly within the plane of the draw as best seen in Fig. 3, said side piece having their outer edges provided with grooves 1 1- for receiving the ways or ribs 8- on the inner face of the sides of the upper portion of the cabinet -1 as more clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, said sliding frame being also provided with one or more cross bars 12one or both of which arelocated in a plane below the top face of the sides of the support 4 and serve not only to brace the opposite sides of the frame but also form rests for the free end of the horn holder 5- when folded down to the position shown in Fig. 3.

The horn holder 5 consists essentially of a pair of opposite parallel bars 14-hav ing theirlower or front ends mounted on separate pivotal pins 15 and their upper rear ends connected by a U-shape bar 16, made in the form of an arch, and having its ends adjustably secured to the front ends of the bar 14 and held in their adjusted position by clamping screws 18 as best seen in Figs. 2 and 3.

The pivotal pins 15 are secured to the inner sides of the opposite side bars of the draw or slide 1 and, therefore the front and lower ends of the bars 14 are pivoted to the front end of said sliding frame -4.

The inner face of one side of the sliding frame 4 is provided with a notch or recess 20 located at the adjacent pivot 15 and of substantially the same or slightly greater length than the adjacent end of the bar 14 nearest thereto so that when the horn holder is elevated to a vertical position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the bars 14 adjacent to the recess -20- may be readily forced into said recess to lock the horn holder in its 11 right position against folding movement, to U-shape bar 16 being usually made of wood, spring tensioned to automatically spread the bars 14 apart so that the locking of the lower end of one side of the horn in the recess 20 will be automatic, and when it is desired to fold the horn holder downwardly into the frame 4-, it is simply necessary to press the bar at 14- adjacent to the recess inwardly out of locking engagement with said recess whereupon the horn holder may be readily. folded rearwardly and downwardly into contact with the cross bar 12 whereupon the draw or slide -4- may be pushed inwardly and concealed in the chamber 7-.

In order to permit longitudinal adjustment or extension of the horn holder, the opposite ends of the U-shape bar 16- are slotted at 25 and each slot receives a clamping screw 26 and an additional guide stud 27 by which the U-shape bar 16 is held in a plane parallel with the arms -14-, the clamping screws 26 being provided with the nuts 18- for holding the U-shape extension 16 in its adjusted position.

The central or arched portion of the U- shape bar 16 is provided with a hook 30- which is adapted to receive a ring 31 on the-horn -6 for holding said horn within the folding frame 5-.

What I claim is:

1. In combination with aphonographcabinet and support thereon, said support having a recess in one side, a fixed pin secured to one side and centrally of and projecting through and beyond the open side of the recess, a horn holder frame hinged to the support and having one side thereof rotatable upon and movable lengthwise of said pin into and out of the recess.

2. A horn holder for phonograph cabinets comprising a support having a recess in one side, a folding horn holder hinged to the support and having one side adapted to enter said recess to lock said horn ho der in its operative position, said horn holder being comosed of sections, one section being adjustable lengthwise of the other, and means to clamp the adjustable section in its adjusted position.

3. In combination with aphonograph cabinet and support thereon, said support hav ing a recess in one side, a fixed pin secured to one side and centrally of and projecting through and beyond the open side of the recess, a horn holder frame hinged to the support and having one side thereof rotatab upon and movable lengthwise of said pin into i and out of the recess, and a limiting stop on the pin to limit the lengthwise movement of the adjacent side of the horn holder on said pin when forced out of the recess.

4. In combination with a cabinet having a chamber therein, a slidin frame movable in said chamber, a horn ho lder hinged to the sliding support, said sliding frame and horn holder being provided with interlocking 6 shoulders near the swinging axis of the horn holder whereby the latter is held in its operative osition, said horn holder having an ad justa le extension.
