Description

PATENTED SEPT. 8, 1908.
GUSTAVE A. STROMGEEN & GEORGE A. STROMGREN.
ROTARY DRAWER.
APPLIOATION FILED MAR. 9, 1908.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE A. STROMGREN AND GEORGE A. STROMGREN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
ROTARY DRAWER.-
T 0 all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that we, GUSTAVE A. STROM- GREN and GEORGE A. STROMGREN, citizens of the United States, both residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Imrovements in Rotary Drawers, of which the ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a rotary receptacle especially adapted for containing arti cles of various character which it is desired to preserve in separate compartments, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character by means of which the several compartments may be rendered more readily accessible, so that the device is especially adapted for use in places where the available space is limited.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cupboard equipped with our invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged broken sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 1s a perspective view of a kitchen table equipped with a modified form of the invention.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, 1-
indicates a cupboard, having a door 2. It
is divided into sections by transverse front strips 3 which are connected with the rear wall by central lon itudinal strips 4, one only line's. Each of said longituc inal strips is formed with a central slot 5, which extends from the front to a'little past the center, and into each slotextends a pivot pin 6 depending from the bottom of a circular box 7. Said box is divided into compartments 8 in any suitable manner, as-
by walls 9. The upper edge of the box 1 formed with notches 10, through which'a finger can 'be inserted for the purpose of withdrawing the box.
In operation, the box is pulled forward as Patented Sept. 8, .1908.
, far as may be necessary, the pin moving in the slot, when by turning it upon its pivot, any desired compartment 8 of the box may be brought to the front to obtain access to articles therein. v In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the box is placed within an ordinary drawer 11, slidable in a kitchen table 12. Two of these drawers are shown in said figure and from one of them the walls forming. the compartments are shown as removed so'that the box may, if desired, be used without said compartments or the entire'box may be removed, and the drawer used in the ordinary manner.
The device will be'found of special utility in economizing space, as it is not necessary to pull the drawer out its full length to obtain access to the whole of the contents thereof. Thus it will be found useful in stores, public or private oflices, kitchens, especially in apartments and flats, or the like. It is understood that the walls of the compartments may be formed of metal, wood, or any other suitable material.
We claim p In combination, walls forming a chamber open at one side, a rotary receptacle in said chamber having ,walls dividing it into compartments open at the top, said receptacle being movable in said chamber to the open side thereof and rotatable when in position so moved to said open side, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
