Description

PATENTED AUG. 11, 1908.
V G. P.-TRAO Y. SINK, BATH TUB WASHSTAND,
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 10, 1907. I
with @0520 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFroE.
CHARLES F. TRACY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SINK, BATH-TUB, WASHSTAND, &c.
Application fi1e 1 June 10, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
My invention relates to improvements in' the class of sinks, washstands, bath tubs and similar vessels, and consists of means for firmly constructing and sustaining the strainer portions of such vessels, and avoiding the perforation of the walls of the vessels for the reception of the bolts or screws, by which the coupling collar of the drain pipe is secured in position.
Figure 1 represents a vertical section, on line 0c9c, Fig. 2, of a sink embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section of a portion, on line 'y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a horizontal section, on line 2z, Fig. 1. 7
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a sink, to which, however, I do not limit my invention, as the latter is applicable to a washstand, bath tub or other similar vessel of cast metallic construction.
In the bottom B of the sink are openings C, which constitute the strainer of the sink, it being noticed that the walls of said openings are integral with said bottom, thus avoiding theuse of a separate strainer, which produces a joint with said bottom, and is otherwise of weak nature, the present construction, furthermore, adapting the sink to be enameled with an unbroken surface, whereby the same Will not break or crack as when a separate strainer is employed. The strainer as such is continueddownwardly below the bottom B of the sink, so as to increase the thickness of the material of the same, thus providing a reinforce for the strainer, which overcomes the weakening action of the openings C necessarily employed.
Depending from the under side of the bottom B around the portion occupied by the strainer openings is the discharge nozzle E, which is preferably of conical or tapering form, and is cast integral with said bottom and reinforce, thus avoiding joints with said parts and providing a strong attachment for said nozzle thereto. The reinforce D projects into the nozzle E, and so provides in- Specificati on of Letters Patent.

creased strength for the connection of the latter with the bottom B.
Depending from the under side of the bottom B around the portion occupied by the nozzle E, and on opposite places thereof, are arms F preferably angular or elbow-shaped, they joining said bottom and the exterior of said nozzle, and being cast integral therewith, thus assisting to sustain and strengthen the latter. In the horizontal limbs of said arms are openings G, which are occupied by bolts or screws H, which also pass through the ears of the collar J, employed to couple or connect the drain pipe K of the vessel A with the nozzle E, the opposite ends of the bolts or screws having nuts L thereon, the same being respectively above the horizontal limbs of said arms and below said collar, and which when tightened press the latter against the portion of the drain pipe that engages the nozzle E, making a tight joint, it being evident that by the employment of the arms F, the bottom of the vessel instead of being pierced and weakened for the passage of bolts or screws therethrough is left intact, a feature of advantage as is evident.
While I have specified certain means for carrying out my improvements, I do not wish to be limited exactly to the same, but desire to make such changes as may come within the scope of the novelty involved.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A vessel of the character stated having a in a wall thereof a strainer, a discharge nozzle and means depending from said wall and joining said nozzle adapted for attachment of the connecting device of a drain pipe with said vessel, said strainer being extended below said wall into said nozzle forming a reinforcing connection for said strainer and nozzle and being integral with the latter.
2. A vessel of the character stated having in a wall thereof a strainer, a discharge nozzle, arms depending from said wall and joining said nozzle, and screws connectible with said arms adapted to engage a device for coupling a dram pipe with said nozzle, said strainer being extended below said wall into said nozzle forming a reinforcing connection are integral with said bottom, a discharge nozzle, and means depending from said bottom integral therewith and with said nozzle adapted for attachment of the connecting device of a drain pipe with said vessel.
4. A vessel of the character stated, having in the bottom thereof a strainer, a discharge nozzle pendent from the walls of said strainer, arms de ending from said bottom and firmly secure( to said nozzle, and means pendent from and connectible with said arms for adjustably attaching a drain pipe to said vessel.
5. A vessel of the character stated, having in the bottom thereof a strainer-opening, a discharge nozzle in communication with said opening, depending arms on said bottom 'oinin said nozzle and inte ral with said bottom and nozzle, and means connectible with said arms for adjusting and securing a drain pipe to said vessel.
6. A vessel of the character stated, having in the bottom thereof a strainer-opening, a discharge nozzle in communication with said strainer, and arms joining said bottom and nozzle and integral therewith.
7. A vessel of the character stated, having in the bottom thereof, a strainer-opening, a discharge nozzle in communication with said ed to engage said arms for connection wit a coupling collar of a drain pipe.
8, A vessel of the character stated, having in the bottom thereof, a strainer-opening, a discharge nozzle in communication therewith, arms joining said bottom and nozzle and integral therewith, and screws in members of said arms, said screws being adapted to engage a device for coupling a drain pipe with said nozzle.
9. A vessel of the character stated, having in a wall thereof a strainer, a discharge nozzle integral with said wall in communication therewith, and arms joining said wall and nozzle and integral therewith.
10. A vessel of the character stated, having in a wall thereof a strainer, a discharge nozzle integral with said wall in communication therewith, arms joining said wall and nozzle and integral therewith, and screws pendent from and connectible with said arms and adapted for attachment of a member of a drain pipe with said nozzle.
