FIG. 1
' X/VENTOR.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED. STRAUSS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
BOTTLE OR RECEPTACLE FOR LIQUIDS FOR MEDICAL AND OTHER USES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
Application filed July 1, 1907. Seria1No. 381,657.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED. STRAUss, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 927 Eleventh street, in the city of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Bottle or Receptacle for Liquids for Medical and other Uses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bottles or receptacles for liquids for medical or other uses; and the objects of my improvement are, first, convenience in the use of the bottle or receptacle and in the withdrawal'of part of its contents in quantities desired, second, prevention of waste of contents of bottle or receptacle in withdrawing part thereof and economy in the usethereof, third, absolute asepsis in withdrawing part of contents. 1 attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the entire bottle or receptacle and Fig. 2. is a horizon tal section on the line A B Fig. 1.
Similar figures refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings 5 is the outer wall of the bottle or receptacle. A dividing wall 6 divides the bottle or receptacle into two compartments of unequal size 3 and 4, this dividing wall 6 bein of the same material as the exterior wall 5 o the bottle or receptacle and is cast integral with it, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Compartment 4 has a closed top which is curved upwardly and at its highest point extends flush with the top end of opening 2 is of much larger section and height than compartment 3 and is designed to normally hold the contents of the bottle. Compartment 3 is situated on the side of compartment 4, is of much smaller section and length and its bottom is above that of compartment 4, while its top projects upward and beyond that of com artment 4. Compartment 3 is designed to ho d such part of the contents of the bottle or receptacle, as
is required for immediate use. An opening 2 through dividing wall 6 near the top thereof and at the top of compartment 4 allows of the passage of the contents from compartment 4 to compartment 3 or vice versa when the whole bottle or receptacle is tilted to the proper angle so as to bring compartment 3 below compartment 4-or vice versa. amount and height of the liquid in compartment 3 may be regulated by the user according to the amount desired by the angle at which.the bottle is tilted from the perpendicular.
The opening 1 in compartment 3 is designed to allow of the filling of the bottle or receptacle and of the insertion of a pipette, syringe or other instrument for the purpose of withdrawing such part of the contents of the bottle or receptacle, as may be desired without spilling any or inserting the instrument into the entire contents of the bottle, the amount to be withdrawn having first been drawn into compartment 3 by tilting the bottle as described. Such opening 1 is further designed to be closed by a cork or other stopper when the bottle is not in use or being transported.
What I claim, as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bottle composed of a pair of compartments of unequal size having a common dividing wall therebetween formed with an opening, the larger compartment having a closed top which is curved and registers with said 0 ening.
2-. 1? bottle composed of a pair of compartments of unequal size, having a wall separat: ing the same, the larger compartment having a closed top with an opening in said wall at the point of juncture of the top and wall.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
v FRED. STRAUSS.
