Description

A gtniid gime @wat GEORGE C. TAFT, OF WORCESTER, .MASSACHUSETTS Leim Patent No. 89,517, dafmz Ami 27, 1869'.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRENCH.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
.To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE G. TAFT, of the city and county of Worcester-,and State of Massachusetts, have Vinvented new and. useful Improvements in Adjustable Fork-Wrench; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows a plan view, giving the outlines of a wrench Figure 2 gives the section view; and
Figure 3 gives the end, or perspective view.
In iig. 2, A represents the 'main handle.
B represents the stationary jaw, which forms a part -of the wrench-handle, it all being cast in one piece. I
C forms the sliding jaw.
D represents the sliding bar, whichrvibrates back and forth, thro'ugh the stationary jaw B. E represents the stationary screw.
`F represents the rosette-nut, which rotates upon screw E, for the purpose of vibrating sliding jaw and bar C and D, back and forth.
G represents a spline and nut, cast upon the lower edge of sliding jaw C, as shown by dotted lines in fig.
2, for the purpose of giving strength to the sliding jaw,
and for the purpose of holding screw-E to the sliding jaw and bar C and D.
My device possesses `the advantage over others in use, by affording greater strength in the threads of the screw.
The devices of J. Worcester, dated June 9,1857,
and W. G. Noyes, dated May 31, 1864, are operated by threads, which correspond to threads on the periphery of my rosette-nut, while my device is operated by threads on the inside of the rosette-nut, working-.in threads on a smaller bar, audthereby greatly increasing the strength of the Wrench.
Having thus described my invention, What-I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement herein shown and described, of the screw E, rosette-nut F, jaw `C, and bar D, when constructed and operating substantially as herein speciv fied.
