Description

5 figlfly-2 PARK PLAGE, ILY.
WILLIAM A. L. KIRK, OFIIAMILTO'N, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO OwEN's, LANE, DYEK, AND COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Pdtent No. 84,361, dated Nowmberll, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN SWAG-E FOR SAWS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making paxjt of the same.
To' alZwho/m, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. L. KIRK, of Hamilton, in the county of Butler, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Saw-Swage; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part 'of this specification.4
The object of my invention is an improved construction in saw-swages.
It consists in the particular manner of securing the movable die to the swage, and the employment'of guides for the purpose of retaining the swage in proper position on the saw while being used.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a side View of the swage, with the'diepiece removed.
'Figure 2 is a plan or top view thereof.
Figure 3 is a side View of the swage, with the diepiece inserted.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the die-piece.
Figure 5 is a side View of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A, g. 1, is a` triangu1arshaped slot in the end of which the die-piece E is adapted to iit the swage, in closely.
The de-piece E has one of its faces plane, while the longer one is provided with a projection, D, which, as
the die is slid into position in the jaws of the swage, fits in a corresponding groove, e, in the jaw f, whereby any lateral movement thereof. is eiiectually prevented. It is intended to vary the angle of the face c of the die E to suit the different forms of teeth toi be swaged, or as many pieces of different angles may be used as is desirable or requisite.
d d are guides,
should extend suciently beyond' the die E, when inserted in the slot A, to prevent the swage bounding off while being used.
If preferred, the guides d d may be dispensed with altogether, as shown in fig. l. j
In use, the instrument is placed on one of the s'awteeth, as shown in red, g. 3, a portion of the tooth and the saw-plate being embraced by the guides d d, and the same is swaged by one or more blows on the end, g, of the shank. The swage may be made of'caststeel.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
The swage, consisting of jaws d and f, and angular ormovable die E, all constructed and arranged as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
' W'M. A. L. KIRK.
