Be it. known that. I, WILLIAM A. HAYES, 'a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia. in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specifidatiqn.

'I he'/ purpose of the present invention is to i0 provide a novel fastening ineansfor securing bundles of papers or the like.

The invention contemplates a )aekage-tie which can be employed with equi facility in connection with .various sizes of bundles and which is ieculiarlv designed so as to be easily vand quie l v applied to t-he bundle or removed therefrom.

A further objectis the provision of a package tie which can be used repeatedly without any appreciable wear uponthe fastening device and with very little wear upon the l binding cord attached thereto. l

In the application of the package tie the base l is placed against one of the faces of j the package at substantially the ccntialportion thereof and the flexible cord 3 drawn around one of the edges of the package to a j peint upon the central portion at the back of the package. The said binding cord is then turned at right angles as indicated at 11 and *wound entirely about the package, the loop ihiis formed passing through the longitudinal notch 5 between the base and binding head. ' Should the cord be excessively long for the bundle being operated upon' the end of the cord is wound a number of times about the bundle after being s ecuiredas previously described, the various loops thus formed bei-ng received within the depressions 9. and 10. After the excessive length has thus been taken up the end portion of the binding cord is passedI transversely across the several loops as indicated at 13, and drawn around the two notches 7 so as to extend across the loops of the cord and pull the same inwardly as indicated at 14, and is then looped several times around the bod) portion of the cord as at 15. It will thus be a'iparent that the tie can be quickly applied to a package or removed therefrom and the various members constituting the package held securely together.

Having thus describedthe invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a )acka-ge tiefthe combination of a base, "a blnding head pro'ecting from the base and having a groovetormed therein, the said binding head being-also vprovided with a depression arranged tifgnisversely with respect to the groove, and t inding cord carried by the base and adapte,4 to have an interlocking connection with th e; binding head.
