HAIR ROLL.
APPLICATION FILED APBHT, 1908.

y HAIR-ROLL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2s, loos.
Application filed April 7, 1908. Serial No. 425,727.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAs P. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the countyl ofFaireld and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iair- Rolls; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use' vthe same.l
My invention relates to'hair rolls such as are commonly made from braided wire or other material and are provided with a comb attachment whereby the roll may be located in the hair of the wearer.
With these ends in view my inventiony consists in the arrangement of parts hereinafter fully set forth and .-then particularly pointed out in theclaims which conclude this description.
In the accom anying drawing Figure 1, is an elevation of) a preferred construction of my improved hair roll-Fig. 2, a section at the line w, of Fig. l-Fig. 3, a fragmentary section at the line y, y, of Fig. 1-Fig'. 4, an elevation of a slightly modified form of my improvement.
Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
My improvement is exceedingly light, and is applied to and maintains its position on the wearers head without disturbing 'the K hair, and will be readilyunderstood from the following description. l
I prefer to ,utilize a roll made from light wire braided into conventional form as denoted at 1, which in the present instance is of such shape and dimensions as to encircle the wearers head, this being one of the popular styles of roll; but right here I desire to say that the shapeor character of the roll is immaterial, and I am enabled to a ply my improvement in making a short or ront pompadour roll just as readily as in the instance of the roll shown in the drawings.
My improvement consists in providing the roll at suitable locations with prehensile projections which are preferably flexible and extend at an angle from the inner surface of the roll, so that when the latter is a plied in position for use said projections simply pass through the hair or have prehensile contact with the hair or scalp without causing discomfort or mussing the hair. These projections can be formed and applied to the roll in various ways, all of which are broadly within the domain of my invention, but I prefer the construction'shown at Figs. 1, 2 and 3, wherein a thin base 2 of rubber is secured to the inside of of the roll at suitable locations by ordinary double Apointed staples 3 forced through the lbase and wire meshes and clenched at the back, this base carrying small rubber teats 4 which extend substantially at right angles to said base. The location of these teats 4 depends upon the character of the roll, the gist of my invention in this respect resting in the broad idea of the teats projecting from the inner face of the roll irrespective of their articular location. In the present instance, w ere the roll shown is designed to encircle the head of the wearer, these teats are preferably located at the front and sides of the inner'face of the roll.
In Fig. 4, I have shown small studs 5 secured to the inner face of the roll so as to project substantially at right angles thereto, this construction being in the nature of a modification of my im rovement.
. I do not wish to be limited to any particular angular disposition of the teats or projections with respect to the roll except as delined by the scope of the a pended claims, since dier'ent styles of rol, different loca- Itions of the roll on the head, or different formations of heads, might render it advisa- 101e to vary said angular disposition more or ess.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hair roll comprising a suitable body and exibie rojeetions eoiliedx to tbe inner i testimony Wbeieoi iiii my signature face of said ody and extending at dn angle in presence of two Witnesses. thereto.
2. A hair roll comprising a suitble body, I THOMAS P TAYLOR 5 a, iexible base secured to the inner face of Witnesses:
said body, and flexible projections extending F. W. SMITH, J 1u at an angle from said base M. T. LONGDEN.
