Be it known that I, ELoUrLD DUPLEssIs, of Sorel, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Fastening Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The invention relates particularly to hatfastening devices adapted to be carried by the hat, and may be said briefly to consist of a rigid comb-plate pivotally mounted upon a resilient Wire the particular contour of which binds the comb-plate to any osition to which it may be moved, while suc resilient wire is fastened by a hat-pin or other means to the lat.

For full comprehension, however, of the invention reference must be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like characters indicate like parts, and wherein- Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved fastening device and a portion of a hat, the fastening device being illustrated in an open state. Fig. 2 is avertical sectional view taken on line B B, Fig. 1, and illustrating the fastening device in a closed state and Fig. 3 is a top view of the hat pin or fastening device.

My improved comb-plate consists, preferably, of a curved comb b with the back 0 thereof folded upon itself and extended and tapered, as at d to provide a thumb-piece, while the space inclosed by the folded-over back presents a straight groove. This comblate is fastened to the hat by means of aresi ient wire, the main length f whereof is slightly curved, and the ends thereof are bent toward. one another, as at g, and then back toward the main length. f again, as at h, and formed with depressions i near their ends. The hat-pin I prefer to use is indicated at n, and the point thereof is bent, as at 0, out of line with the body thereof.

In assembling the parts the main lengthof the resilient wire carrier is forced into the space inclosed by the comb-plate and the carrier is then placed in position upon the side of the hat and secured in place by the pin, as shown in the drawings, the bent end of'the pin facilitating the fastening thereof in place.

The particular contour of the bent resilient wire causes the hat-pin to impart additional friction between the comb-plate and the carrier, owing to the latter being slightly bowed in the strai ht inclosing portion of the plate.

What I c aim is as follows:

1. A hat-fastening device consisting of a resilient carrier adapted to be fastened to the hat and constructed to present a bowed portion, and a pivoted rigid comb-plate carried by such carrier and constructed to present a straight fold or channel inclosing and fitting revolubly and snugly upon the bowed portion of the carrier for the purpose of enabling the comb-plate to be retained by the carrier in different angular positions relatively to such carrier.

2. A hat-fastening device comprising a resilient carrier consisting of a length of wire bent to present a bowed portion and attachment portions, and a rigid comb-plate formed with a straight fold inclosing and fitting revolubly upon the bowed portion of the wire for the purpose of enabling the comb-plate to be retained in different angular positions relative to such carrier.

3. A hat-fastening device consisting of a resilient wire having its main length bowed and the ends thereof bent toward one another and then back toward the bowed portion and formed with depressions near their ends, a rigid comb-plate consisting of a curved comb with the back thereof folded upon itself to present a straight groove inclosing the bowed portion of the carrier, and means whereby said carrier is fastened to a hat.

4.. A hat-fastening device consisting of a resilient wire having its main length bowed and the ends thereof bent toward one another and then back toward the bowed portion and formed with depressions near their ends, a

rigid comb-plate consisting of a curved comb with the back thereof folded upon itself to present a straight groove inclosing the bowed portion of the carrier, and extended and tapered to provide a thumb-piece, and a hat-pin having its point bent for fastening the device to a hat.
