CHARLES O. LININDOLL AND LOTTIE O. LININDOLL, OF FORT EDVARD, NEV YORK.
DRESS-SHIELD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 763,990, dated July 5, 1904.
Application led December 2l, 1903. Serial No. 186,063. (No model.)
To (LZ zult/)m t may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES C. LININ- DOLL and LoT'rIE C. LININDoLL, of Fort Edward, Vashington county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Shield Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to improvements in dress-shield fasteners, though the invention can be used with almost equal facility and advantage for other purposes. It isespecially intended for use or in connection with dressshields; and the object of our invention is to produce a very cheap and simple device which can be easily applied to a dress-shield, which when applied cannot be accidentally displaced, and which can also be quickly and securely attached to the waist or other garment so as to hold the dress-shield securely in place and also in a manner to prevent it from wrinkling.
As above remarked, the invention can also be applied and used for other purposes.
lith these ends in view our invention consists of a dress-shield fastener the construction and arrangement of which will be hereinafter described. Y
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference refer to similar parts throughout both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fastening device embodying our invention, showing it with both ends open ready for adjustment; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the device, showing it closed and with both ends fastened to a dress-shield and garment.
One end of the fastener consists of a pair of jaws 10, which for cheapness and convenience are made in a single piece doubled in the center, as shown at 11, and constituting at this point a part of a hinge-knuckle and the free ends being bent outward, as shown at 12, so as to enable the jaws to have their meeting edges approach one another in such a way as to secure a good grip on the garment to which they are attached. kThis construction also prevents the fastening-sleeve 13 from slipping off the jaws, and the little bends 12 in the jaws serve to prevent the sleeve from sliding ing jaw or plate 17, which is also preferably struck up from a single piece having one eX- tension formed into the knuckle 16, already referred to, and having at its free edge a fastening projection 18, which is pointed and which is of malleable material, so that it may be bent easily and doubled over the free edge of the loop or jaw 15.
In practice the fasteners are preferably applied at the lower edges and opposite parts of a dress-shield, the Lipper edges, comprising the plate 17 and loop 15, being attached to the shield, and the lower jaws are secured to a garment, such as the waist, at a point lbelow the shield. rlhe jaws may be placed over a wrinkle, seam, fold, or other part of the garment, and the sleeve 13 is pushed down, so as to secure them.
ln attaching the fastener to a shield or other article a hole is made through the article. The projection 18 is thrust through the hole. The parts 15 and 17 are closed together, and then the projection 18 is doubled over a part of the loop 15, as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
From the above description it will be seen that the invention is a very simple one and it is easily applied, and that when once in position both its fastening ends are made `eX- ceptionally secure.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi
1. A fastening device of the kind described, comprising two pairs of jaws connected at their bases so as to extend in opposite directions, and means for independently fastening both pairs of jaws in closed position.
2. A 'fastening device of the kind described, comprising a pair oi' jaws having a sliding' sleeve thereon to lock them, and a second pair of jaws, pivotally connected to the iirst pair, one of the second pair having a loop member and the other having a projection constructed to be doubled over a part oil the loop member.
3. A fastening device of the kind described, Comprising a pair oi jaws vformed of a single piece bent in the center to make a hingeknuckle, the said jaws having outward and inward bends near their free ends, a locking'- sleeve sliding on the jaws, and e second pair oi jaws hinged to the iirst and comprising` a loop and a plate having a malleable projection I 5
