of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Retainers;

and I do hereby declare the following to be.

a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has for its object to pro Vide a simple and eificient device adapted for insertion between the folds of a collar for supporting the necktie in position and for insuring free sliding movement thereof between the collar folds.

Another object is the provision of a necktie retainer constructed of two members hingedly connected together, whereby the necktie may be conveniently inserted in position therein.

l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numerals 5 and 6 indicate the inner and outer members, respectively, of the necktie retainer, which in the type illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are constructed of sheet metal, the plate 6 being of substantially the same shape but smaller in size than the inner plate 5. One longitudinal edge of the inner plate 5 is formed with end and intermediate or center clips 7 and 8, respectively, adapted to engage the lower edge of the inner fold of a collar 9 to properly secure the retainer in position, and the center clip 8 is formed with a slot 10 to receive the shank of the rear collar button 11,.by which the rear portion of the collar 9 is secured to the neckband 12.0f a shirt 13.

The longitudinal edges of the inner member 5 are turned laterally and opposite to the clips 7 and 8 to provide guides 14 to receive and guide the necktie 15. The necktie is retained in position in the guides 1 1 by the outer plate 6, which is ri idly secured at 16 by a lateral projection 1% formed on one longitudinal edge thereof, whereby the front and rear members 5 and 6 may be separated, as illustrated in Fig. 2, to permit the necktie to be conveniently placed in position between the members.

The free longitudinal edge of the outer member 6 is formed with a lateral projection 18, having the edge turned, as indicated at 19 in Fig. 3, and adapted to resiliently engage a rod 20 secured in the turned edge 21 of the corresponding edge of the inner member 5 to detachably secure the front and rear members 5 and 6 in operative or closed position.

In use, the necktie 15, subsequent to its insertion between the front and rear members 5 and 6, respectively, may be freely moved longitudinally in the retainer, and the latter is placed in position between the folds of the collar 9, as illustrated in Fig. 3, and is secured in position therein by the spring clips 7 and 8. The necktie retainer is prevented from moving longitudinally between the folds of the collar 9 as the necktie is adjusted by the center clip 8 engaging over the headed rear collar button 11.

In the modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5, the numerals 25 and 26 indicate the inner and outer members of the necktie retainer, which, in this instance, are each formed of a plurality of sections 25 and 26, respectively. The in ner or adjacent edges of the sections 25 and 26 of the inner and outer sections are connected by a hinge rod 27, and a. securing ro 28 is secured in the curved edges 29 of the inner sections 25, which latter are also provided with the end and intermediate collarengaging clips 30 and 31, respectively. The center or intermediate strip 31 is formed with a slot 32 adapted to receive the rear collar button to prevent longitudinal movement of the necktie retainer between the folds of the collar. The outer or free ends of the sections 26 of the outer member :26 are curved, as indicated at 33, and adapted to engage the portions of the rod 28 exposed between the cutaway portions 25 of the sections 25 ofthe inner member to secure the inner and outer members in operative position between the folds of the collar.

What I claim is: 1. A necktie retainer adapted for insertion between the folds of a collar, including a flat member for slidably receiving a neck tie, means for detachably securing the memher to the inner fold of a collar, and a hinged keeper secured to said member to prevent the accidental displacement of the necktie.

2.
